Cupra Widebody
Hello All :)

I have an Leon Cupra -08, stage 3, 360bhp...

The Turbo or I think it's the turbo, it has started to whine but only when the turbo is on the way to spool up?...

It works as normal but starts to whine from -07bars till 01bar after that i cant hear if it's stops or continues to whine because all the other sounds take over...

I have driven almost 50000km and the sound has never been like that before.. :/

Maybe somebody hear knows why or what that sound is???

Thanks!

Michael

i have that on my stage 1 , it sounds like coming from right hasnd side of engine bay just behind the pedals , it doesnt do it on stock mode :(

might be a loose or damaged connection of the intake though?

I have managed to get it to do it in stock mode. Always wonder is it a good or bad whine? I first noticed it when I was running stage 1, currently running stock.

I dont get a whine, but I do get a metallic "tinkling" noise which is intermittent, but only upon spool and boost. Never been able to pin point what it is either.

I get the high pitched whistle but I thought this was just a by product of increasing the boost pressure with a remap? I wouldn't call it a whine though.

I get the same as DJHorace, tinkling between 3500/4000 rpm as turbo spools up and the kick begins. I visit a lot of garages in my job and neither of the 2 VAG places can put their finger on it........................

This is a common problem on the vauxhall forums. it is a worn alternator/AC drive belt.

Rub some candle wax onto the ribbed side of the belt, this may sort the problem for a short time. If it does then fit a new belt.

I have wondered if it was the alternator belt/idler/tensioner slapping at certain rpm frequencies, maybe if it's not too hard i'll drop the belt off for a very short test!

As said above, no need, just rub candle wax on the ribbed side and take it for a blast and see.

Glovepup,

I think a whisle is normal as all turbos whistle to a certain extent, its just a by product of the speed of the compressor wheel turning in the turbo.

My Cupra whistles also when booting it.

i have a whine from the drivers side, whines all the time when revving.... turbo also whistles when on boost, think the whistles normal from increase in boost....

whining isnt though. if i stand still and rev it whines.

havent been able to pinpoint this yet, but im guessing tensioner pulley or bearing gone.

Mine has similar whine noise from drivers side.. I notice it most when on a roundabout, 2nd gear and mid revs. Its almost like a diff/supercharger whine. Done it from new.

To revive an old thread, did you find the cause of this as I have this also however not with stock map only with stage 2 ?
