hi all
just a quick question are cut slicks legal or not?? and does anyone have a sett or had a set also does anyone the price??

Have driven cars with both the above tyres

In the dry they are good as they are very soft
In the dry when hot they are silly grippy and make you drive tooooo fast round every bend :) but will soon feather the outside left with all the roundabouts :(

Also they throw stones up at your car, you can hear them all the time so will pepper your paint over time.

In the wet, slightly damp they are ok if you drive carefully
In the wet, standing water they are deadly, be very very carefull.

I think these types of tyres are only needed for track days and going to/from.

Can get them from here http://www.topgear.co.uk/acatalog/Track_Day_Tyres.html and loads of other places! GOOGLE :)

nice one mate cheers. i do fancy a set but with it coming up to winter i might but them off abit now and wait for the sun shine if there is any. i dont fancy writing my car off. lol

Good plan mate!
They dont last very long either as they are soooo soft
If you had a spair set of wheels with them on then that would be ideal because you could just put them on for shows, trackdays, sunny days etc

just been looking at some tyres now i know cut slicks arnt the best for britain, ive been looking at toyo proxxis anyone used these?? my mates got some on her lupo gti and they seem pretty good but i dnt know if its more the car than the tyres if you know what i mean.

Proxes are good, ive had them on 2cars now i think and i like them, i will probably get them when i need some new ones i think.
They arent too expensive, are very good in wet and dry and i think they last ok aswell.
Have a look at paradas aswell ;) (they arent as good in the dry as proxes but maybe a little more sticky in the dry)

Colway used to do some useable track tyres but not sure if they are still operating

Aimez:
If you imagine a slick racing tyre (a tyre with no tread) that is designed to work best when hot on a solid surface in race conditions therefore is very soft and sticky.
Its like that crossed with a fast road tyre.
So you have a slick with very few cuts in it (just enough to be legal) but softer than a road tyre.
The R888 looks like this to give you an idea

really you should get another set of alloys and fit them to those. Some lightweigh ones to match the grip. As said they really are a dry tire. They are very very tricky in the wet.

I have Yokohama A520 tyres on my car when i got it. Nice and grippy things but road noise is an issue, wet seems to be ok and when it does understeer its managable.
