Cutting springs

CELICA88

Kid with many cars.......
Hi, i know this is normally a big no no, and ive always said ill never do it, and my other cars run coilovers, but my dad is in germany and has bought me some cheap fk ones, but isnt back in the country for a while, and im hating using this as my daily drive atm as its on 17s and is as high as a 4x4! Its got 205/40/17 tyres on, how much can i lower on these without scrubbing, and does anyone think it will be ok just to cut 1 coil off each spring just to last the next two months at the most? Thanks, Sam

Just a pic below to show how it is atm, replace the 2 x's with t's lol

doing so your endangering yourself and others on the road!

Dont listern to them, cutting the springs is the right move. End of the day wont be on for long, and you can slam it like a proper dub car then mate, I know someone running cut springs on a Skoda Fabia vRS, uses it all the time, even in the snow, and its slammed, looks mint and he gets all the ladys.

I say, dont listern to these people, they aint done it, and are just saying it cos they dont want your car lower than theirs after spending £600+ on a proper set up that isnt stupid, its their loss not yours.

My mate has done loads of miles and is still alive, and he drives like a right cokc too!

Are you for real

Let me guess, how much have you guys spent on your 'low rider' suspension then? Dont be upset that this guy can clamp his bad ass OEM springs and grind away at them till he is about as low as your best friend sleeping with your girlfriend guys!

Its the way forward, you both read my reply, but didnt see my reply did you :D

My suspension is stock and I have no plans to change it thanks all the same.

If I was to lower it I would draw some money out of my savings and buy a quality kit rather than being a stooopit TIT like your mate.

Standard suspension on my Cupra. Why would I get upset because someone is gona cut thet springs and spoil the handling. How can that be the way forward?

It is dangerous to cut springs. End of story. Feel free to do it but SCN do not promote things like this.

No SCN dont "promote" anything, otherwise when a crappy clutch goes that someone said here was good, they are going to get the bill, much like they wouldnt if someone cut their standard springs like a cool dude that he obv. is.

You two really need to re-read my first reply... just a thought.

Perhaps some people should try reading this post corretly?

Sarcasm? I believe so.

Read into it more and it is clear that ballenapene also thinks that chopepd springs are a ridiculous idea.

Okay, I'm trying to work out whether you're being deliberately obtuse and sarcastic or whether you really don't have a clue. I'm hoping it's the former, but going by past experience I'm willing to consider the latter.

As to whether SCN promotes anything, it doesn't have to as the site is formed of it's user's opinions and as such the opinions on products are theirs and not the site's. They general will, of course, try to steer people away from doing something that will cause themselves or others harm, but ultimately people are free to decide what they want to do if they so desire.

I have read your first reply again and All I can find is some bad punctuation, pigeon English and the word Listen spelled wrong twice.

It's LISTEN not LISTERN.

What's your point?

take em out altogether and sit on the bumpstops - if you cut em off too low you will end up on em anyway - not good

cut springs is an age old practice on a limited array of older vehicles with certain type design of springs and if you can do the proper maths, check the type, test the originals, fit/mod the shocks to suit, and fit them knowing 110% that they are perfectly safe - then go for it

if you can't then don't be shocked when you bounce out a pothole into a tree :)
