Can the thread not be tapped and a new bleed nipple fitted, as you can buy bleed nipples separately from local motor factors. And if only one is damaged why change both?

Yeah I think that should be more than possible, but I don't want to be without my car as I am a bit stuck with the bodyshop not willing to do that - meaning I'd have to get it done elsewhere and I'm not around in the week to get these kind of things sorted out.

The only reason I'm buying two is one caliper would be 40k older than the other and they usually suggest calipers are changed in pairs.

I think when phillc gets hold of them he'll probably have no trouble getting a new thread tapped and they'll look pretty good on his LC.

Im sure they can be re tapped . ive seen a few calipers cross threaded at work. think they are common as when they undo they pull the threads out and then will only leak after. maybe possible to helicoil the caliper with a small helicoil and a new bleed nipple

£700 I'd be going mad. since you say can't prove nothing I would look at getting them re-threaded as others have suggested I'm sure this would be more than possible take them to a local engineering firm for a second opinion.

If not have you tried wrapping looks of PTFE tape around the screw and winding it in that way?

Thing is it's all about proof. It was probably during my service at SEAT a year ago but I can't prove that.

All I know is that since visiting Storm Developments for my remap I'll be going back to them for all servicing work from now on!

Hello mate - if I were you I would definitely give Storm a call before coughing up for new calipers! I'm sure they will tell you straight if they can be salvaged. Might mean hiring a car for a couple of days to get you about but might still save you some cash!

Ok then rent a car for a few days and get the calipers repaired in the mean time, would work out alot cheaper than £700. plus it doesnt make a difference if one is new and one has done 40k.

Yeah just wanted to make sure I don't suffer from any kind of brake pull.

I did speak to Storm and they said as long as there's enough material it should be easy enough to re-tap but he can't say without looking at it.

Well, I've sold the calipers to phillc and the order for new ones has already been made so looks like I'll be using new ones.

At least I made some money back from the calipers, and I'm thinking of selling the new brake pads and some 80mm decals that I picked up from ebay too. It'll probably cost me close to 350-400 overall if I do that.
