My Terramar arrives with me next month, currently I have a Formentor. I have a VioFo dashcam in the Formentor, wired to the fuse box so it has parking mode. I have been advised not to use parking mode on the Terramar as it's a Hybrid and the battery will not cope with it it. I am low mileage driver so the car can go for days without going anywhere. On the other hand I was a also told that leaving the car plugged into the charger will keep the 12v battery charged too, so which is it? I may also bin off the VioFo and go for the FitCamx, though watching a video of someone installling one, it didn't appear so easy to get the existing covers off.

Charging the HV battery doesn't charge the 12v battery unfortunately.

The brand supplies Kenwood and Nextbase units, both have a "park" function. The park function with a permanently wired live feed will deplete the battery over time.

If you've got the Viofo hard wire kit, pretty sure it's got voltage drop sensing that turns off parking mode if the battery voltage drops.
It does, I've got a Viofo A329 hardwired using their kit - works perfectly. I looked at the Fitcamx devices - they don't have GPS integration which is pretty fundamental in a dash cam - they can't record speed or location.

So I see, so that rules out the Fitcamx devices. I think the battery on my Formentor has just about had it anyway, and as it's leaving me in a few weeks at most I will not be replacing it. The 12v battery on the Hybrid 1.5 variant of the Terramar is a 60Ah which is similar to the capacity of the Formentor 1.5. I'll probably stay with the VioFo and just remember to unclip it when the car is not going to be used for a while, especially when parked in airport car parks for a couple of week, though that may be the time when I need it most!

EDIT: I've just done a bit more research, my current Viofo is an A129, so quite an old unit now and pretty power hungry in parking mode, and yes, I do have the hardwire kit and it's set to 12.4v. Seems l'll be buying an A329s and HK6 for the Terramar. I also don't really fancy trying to get the dashcam off the screen on the Formentor, it's been there for four years, the idea of heating the screen with a hairdryer to soften the bond fills me with terror.
