My Terramar arrives with me next month, currently I have a Formentor. I have a VioFo dashcam in the Formentor, wired to the fuse box so it has parking mode. I have been advised not to use parking mode on the Terramar as it's a Hybrid and the battery will not cope with it it. I am low mileage driver so the car can go for days without going anywhere. On the other hand I was a also told that leaving the car plugged into the charger will keep the 12v battery charged too, so which is it? I may also bin off the VioFo and go for the FitCamx, though watching a video of someone installling one, it didn't appear so easy to get the existing covers off.

Charging the HV battery doesn't charge the 12v battery unfortunately.

The brand supplies Kenwood and Nextbase units, both have a "park" function. The park function with a permanently wired live feed will deplete the battery over time.

If you've got the Viofo hard wire kit, pretty sure it's got voltage drop sensing that turns off parking mode if the battery voltage drops.
It does, I've got a Viofo A329 hardwired using their kit - works perfectly. I looked at the Fitcamx devices - they don't have GPS integration which is pretty fundamental in a dash cam - they can't record speed or location.

So I see, so that rules out the Fitcamx devices. I think the battery on my Formentor has just about had it anyway, and as it's leaving me in a few weeks at most I will not be replacing it. The 12v battery on the Hybrid 1.5 variant of the Terramar is a 60Ah which is similar to the capacity of the Formentor 1.5. I'll probably stay with the VioFo and just remember to unclip it when the car is not going to be used for a while, especially when parked in airport car parks for a couple of week, though that may be the time when I need it most!

EDIT: I've just done a bit more research, my current Viofo is an A129, so quite an old unit now and pretty power hungry in parking mode, and yes, I do have the hardwire kit and it's set to 12.4v. Seems l'll be buying an A329s and HK6 for the Terramar. I also don't really fancy trying to get the dashcam off the screen on the Formentor, it's been there for four years, the idea of heating the screen with a hairdryer to soften the bond fills me with terror.

It does appear to. I now have my hybrid, and the LV battery definately has a higher voltage after a charging session. 12.2 volits when I got home after a 120m run earlier, after a charge to 80% it was up to 12.35, that was obtained using the VW EU Data Act info pull. Now the question is, what should a fully charged and healthy LV battery read?

The HV charge process (for example a 7.5kw wall charger plugged in) will sustain the 12v battery but it won't dump a load of current into it.

12.6 Volts is a normal reading, when fully charged the 12 Volt battery can read up to 15 volts.

We're getting our wires crossed a bit here.

The plug-in charge process will only sustain the 12v battery, it's not there to charge it.

When the vehicle is driven, the HV invertor charges and maintains the 12v battery.

I've just popped a meter on the battery itself, it reads 12.45, that's with the backdoor open and unlocked etc, so I would say pretty normal, so don't take the figure that the VW EU data spits out as being anything other than an indication.

I hope you don’t mind if I use your thread for a similar question.

So, I have a Terramar 2.0 TSI, non-hybrid, petrol-only, with 204 hp. I have the same dashcam, a Viofo A329S, and an HK6 hardwire kit. As far as I understand, there shouldn’t be any issues with parking mode in my case.

My question is: which specific fuses would be best to use when connecting the HK6 kit?

For ACC, I’ve chosen the cigarette lighter fuse, since the cigarette lighter switches off as soon as I turn off the engine. Now I need to find a fuse that provides constant power.

I’d rather avoid tapping into any circuits that are critical to the vehicle’s operation.

What would the community recommend?

I just metered around until I found one with a constant 12v supply and one with an ignition switched. I'll be having a closer look today and making a final choice. There are a lot of spare slots but the bus ( copper ) can be seen with no fuses fitted. I only put the front camera in yesterday, and there is still work to do. I will say though that be careful with the glovebox, I put a little too much pressure on it when it was dropped, the damping arm came out of its body and the little gear wheel is now somewhere behind the dash. My task today is to find it and put that back together, and it appears you need an arm with two elbows to do it, then I'll start of the rear camera!

Thank you for the warning.
If I understand your avatar correctly, my interior fuse box should be located somewhere slightly different. :)
I’ll also try testing the circuits with a multimeter today and make a trial connection.

I connected the HK6 and tested it, and everything seems to be working fine at first glance.

For ACC, I chose fuse 52 (12V socket — centre console and luggage compartment), and for constant power, I used fuse 30 (Radio). Hopefully, the radio doesn’t go to sleep after a while; I’ll check that.

Now I need to choose the parking mode settings.
