Dashboard lights and rear number plate lights staying on and draining battery.

I put LEDs in the number plates and in all the interior lights. I have not changed the dash lights though.

problem solved

Sort of self inflicted.
I had plugged in a 12v heater into the cigar lighter, and on removing it I noticed a burning smell, and thought it was from the heater but in fact it was due to overheating behind the cigar lighter socket which had burnt through other wiring to give the problem.
The spring of the plug centre contact (on opening up the plug) was found to be made of COPPER ( i.e. virtually no spring action at all ), resulting in a poor contact and overheating which obviously melted the wiring causing short circuits.
