Heyy, Just bought a really lovely seat leon 1.6s 2002, only thing is that when i take the key out, like above it beeps and some of the lights flash on the dash :( did anyone have any luck with getting it fixed?

will keep you posted with mine when its back together, had to leave country at last minute so its not been touched since posting above

Hiya, my seat leon 16s (2001) started having these problems about 2 weeks ago on a very very rainy morning (at least I discovered it that morning for the first time before opening the car, didnt had the problem the night/evening/ever before).

Could this problem be initiated by moisture getting (trapped) into the dashboard circuit leading to this (obviously random occurring) problem? Any1 got experience with this...?

replying to LEON-ELECS=CRAP that was the question I asked some time ago.
The only real answer seemed to be `it goes away in time` so I tried that, hoping that the warmer drier weather would help.
It went to intermitent and then Ok for a long period, but is now back just as it was at the start. Is there any solution other that a complete new dash array?
hey, did you get a new dash and did it work?

i think i'll eat my words and have to go for a new instrument panel at this point, anyone know where i can get one other than from my local (reading) dealer for 281.70. They said the part number for my 2001 1.6s is IM0920902, i can find quite a few on ebay but they must be for diesels and all the scappies round me have sold thiers

Flashing

No, not yet. I saw somewhere that dealers charge £500 to supply and fit.
Did you try the other things suggested above?

yeah, definately the pcb on rear of clocks, no water ingress anywhere on my car, you can see where it shorted after the condensation built up during the snow and the car being sat (i found condensation dripping off screen and forming pools on dash top). will never buy vag again (at least this model), now mine needs recoding to vehicle as it wont start as it acts as part of immobiliser circuit but i could pay £60 for this to find that it still has the original fault. lowest price for my unit seems to be £231 plus vat then as above for a seat specialist to programme it to car but would need towing to the garage as it wont start without. my advice would be to bite the bullet and get it done, trade it in during summer or geat seals sorted to help and take a chance. (This is the case on my car anyway, i'm an experienced technician and its taken me weeks of electrical fault finding to get this far) good luck, hope you fare better than me

Electrical nightmare

I see loads of forum posts around the flashing/beeping electrical fault that many Leons develop but no posts from people say "yes, wow, fixed it". Is it fixable?

We have this fault on a 2001 Leon 20VT (European RHD import). It started as intermittent and now is permanent. A DC clamp meter shows a constant battery drain of around 1A. The lights flash on the dashboard and the we have the beep, beep, beeeeeeeping.

I've removed and cleaned the earth connections under the battery and played with them with the battery connected to no effect at all. I've ran my own additional earth connection from the battery to the chassis to no effect. I know these cars leak water everywhere (well almost) and corrode, but I cant see where else it could be earthed badly.

Has anyone found the root cause of this and fixed it?

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds and sorry if there is another thread with the fix on that works!

:)

Electrical nightmare Take #2

Hi,
I just followed the instructions to remove the drivers side covers to get to the fuses and relays. With the covers off and dashboard Xmas tree lit up I pulled each relay in turn and even pulled the two plugs on the ECU with no effect at all on the Xmas tree lights.
:(

Hi,

We also had the same condensation issue as you did ("i found condensation dripping off screen and forming pools on dash top"). Did you change the instrument pcb to fix it in the end?

THANKS!

I had totally lost faith in the car by that point so was lucky enough to get rid as a non runner to a Seat Electrician for £900.

The PCB was gone on my car due to moisture ingress as far as I'm aware. Also, another common fault that can cause these symtoms is apparantly linked to the turn signal switchgear somehow so this may be worth tracing. this is all the advice that i can offer as I sold mine (short ownership full of faults and sick of spending my time on the vehicle).

Best of luck.

i had this exact same problem but traced it to a water leak in through the bulkhead. The gutter under the wipers was blocked with leaves and when I'd cleared these, i sealed round the electrics block (just used bathroom sealant). It took about a week to dry out and now hasn't flashed or beeped at me for about a month and it's rained plenty since then!
