Another option is to fit the Kenlowe Hotstart.
I used this on previous cars and it's brilliant
It's basically a kettle element and pump that it fitted in the hose between the block and the heater matrix.
You plug it in to the mains overnight on a timer and in the morning the car's all warmed up
Trouble is I can't find where to fit it on the LC TDi
