I'm after getting a de lock kit for my mk4, however i have found out the key lock will just pull all the way out without undoing the gold screw on the edge of the door. When i pulled it out i found this :

mine has the red bit missing. I should say at this point the door lock doesnt work, i believe the prev owner has had the door swopped and hasnt swopped the barrel or something like that.

So my question is, if i get a delock kit will the new metal piece still pull out the door without undoing the gold screw ?

cheers

I cant remember when I did mine but I believe the bottom has nothing to do with the gold screw so you should be fine thats the bit that goes into the door lock mechanism (whihc you should be fitting a disc over).

FYI discs are available from seat for free. Code disc.

It looks like it :confused:

IIRC, the gold screw clamps onto the flat area of the lock in your picture (that one actually looks like it might have some light scoring on it to confirm this)

I'd guess the previous owner of your car has done a cheap 'security' mod and snapped the end off so as not to have to buy a de-lock kit ....or the lock mechanism has jammed and they were just a little too heavy-handed when using the key to lock/unlock it

Two options;

i) is there a washer under the gold screw you can remove *very carfully* - you might lose your door-lock insdie the door trying this
ii) before you slide the new de-lock metal piece into the door, glue (or otherwise affix) a metal spacer that the gold screw can get a purchase on

thanks for that ^

do i have to fit the small metal disc ?
does it stop a theif jamming a flat blade into the door mechanism to turn and open the door ?

thanks

Dunno.... you don't have to, but I know people do

Your de-lock blank (once securely held in place) should be enough to keep your average thief at bay - the metal disc just blanks off the part that the 'red-bit' in your first picture slots into
