I once enquired about how much extra would it cost to add a new exhaust system and new rear bumper in a quote on a Seat Leon 2.0TDI SE DSG, but i never got it fitted. They went ahead and increased my premium (which was about 100 more a year). When I asked why did it increase, they said they will remove the extra charge if i can show them a picture of the rear of my car, which I did, and they reverted back to the original quoted price.

We're with Esure just now and I don't think they cover modified cars at all.

Some insurers’ business models aren’t geared up to handle anything other than bog standard risks - anything that falls outside their standard underwriting and risk acceptance criteria and automatic price calculation algorithm, they’re unlikely to cover it. Esure is probably one such insurer.

Insurers that will consider modifications normally have a list of acceptable modifications and a scale of percentage loadings they apply to their premiums, the amount of the loading being dependent on what the modification(s) are. If a customer’s car has modifications that aren’t on the list, one of the insurer’s underwriters may consider whether the modifications are acceptable from a insurance point of view, together with any any premium adjustment that might be necessary.

Based on what I‘ve read on some forums, sometimes these ‘specialist’ underwriters don’t have the technical knowledge to fully understand these modifications, so their ability to assess the risk from an acceptance point of view, together with what premium to charge, is flawed.

IMO, for anyone who is into modifying their car, it is always worth contacting an insurance broker or insurer that specialises in insuring modified cars, as they are more likely to have staff with the knowledge to understand the modifications.

I think that's doubly true for the big guys. Even simple things like changing wheels ca flummox them. They're not interested I the extra work, there are enough normal cars out there for them.

Quite a few cars can be ordered new with badge delete so not sure how that filters through to an insurance company, power packs etc yes but for badge delete I don't think it would make a difference.
Only way to be sure like others have said is to ask your insurer
