My wife has a Cooper S but we recently got a bull mastiff and guess what she won't fit, so after doing a bit of surfing yesterday, and looking at the Touran (somewhat uninspired) came across the Altea and I think this could be the car. I'm guessing the dog will fit in the "boot" without going for an XL. She says she still wants a "nippy" car so looking at the FR diesel or petrol, but browsing on autotrader there simply are no petrol ones for sale, so if everyone wants a diesel I'm just worried if we order a petrol one it will affect it's resale 2-3 years down the line. What do you think, should we just go with the flow and get a diesel?

It depends whether you like diesels or not. You won't feel shortchanged whichever you go for , performance wise, but if your wife is used to a petrol car, the petrol might suit her better. Both can be remapped to get more out if you want, though at the moment it seems you can't get as much extra from the FR diesel as from others because of the exhaust particulate filter, I think.
Resale wise, the diesel might be a bit better, but don't expect the sort of residuals that you experience with a Mini!

sorry to go off topic but does the exhaust pressure make much difference to a diesel? tell me im wrong, i thought a deisel needed some more pressure? dont think there be a huge diference in thne petrol, bit lighter/responsive, i have 1.9 pd tdi and it is responsive, not like my last '01 diesel. sorry fpr going off topic a bit.

Hey thanks everyone for your input, I guess we'll just have to try them, I'm going try to book a test drive this next week are so, the nearest dealers are Preston or Warrington, should I have any preferece? Oh, does anyone want to buy an all-black Mini Cooper S almost exactly 2 years old?
