Some people getting very carried away here!!!

The Cupra isn't a bad car at all. I'm not saying the vxr is better...I believe it's much for muchness.

If you want a properly fast fad hot hatch, buy a RS!!!

If you want a properly fast car in the same budget...buy an evo!

RS3 is 5 door only. Its very cool :). Evo's are 5 door only. They are ace too.

Well, technically it has 4 doors...but now we're splitting hairs!! :cartman:

...and???

All that shows is that some owners who use forums bought a cupra after a vxr, because you can't read about it on the net doesn't mean that cupra owners haven't bought vxr's!!

1. I have no overwhelming brand loyalty (owned 3 evo's, 'burg, RS, 225, Cupra) so I'm certainly not slating the Cupra....just pointing out that having actually owned a burg and taken the time to use it properly on the track I know it's not as bad as you are trying to make out.

I don't think its bad, just not as good as something better. I also agree that the Leon Cupra is blown away by its rivals, but I have no reason to try and justify it being better than it is. Focus RS, new Megane Sport, S3, Evo are all way better than the Leon Cupra, or Leon Cupra R if you are talking £ for £ new (approx £25k mark)

2. The op asked about the vxr nurburgring...NOT a standard vxr

Fair point

3. How much is the Cupra per year to tax again?

£15 less than an Astra VXR/Nurburgring - We just need to make sure we don't spend all that in one shop ;)

4. What encap rating again?

...3+4.... splitting hairs and hardly worth puttin in an argument against the vxr

Higher overall score bud

5. Vxr seats are absolutely superb, comfortable and very supportive

But not as good as the seats in a Cupra

6. Having done many SMD conversions I can confirm that the dials and controls are not lifted from an older vauxhall

The graphic display, layout and design of dash as well as the switches all resemble that from older Vauxhalls. The MK2 Leon dash is nothing like the MK1 Leon dash although I do agree the central part of the dash on the (pre facelift) MK2 Leon is ****.

7. Finally, the rolling road. This is a dastek unit that I know is accurate! I made 310, 308 and 307.5 on different days. One of which seen many standard cars make standard power. I did have some generic map, I had one properly written for my car...the best form of tuning!

Would be very interested to see that graph and know the power at the wheels ;)

In my opinion, the main difference between the Vauxhall and SEAT followers are that the SEAT guys know where they stand in the scale of things - ie they know the Leon Cupra is NOT the best hot hatch out there, and most won't make it seem that way.

Sure straight line performance sees them ahead of most comparable cars when tuned, but handling, grip, traction, central part of dash let it down.

The Focus RS, Evo, Megane and Scooby STi are better cars than the Leon Cupra, but the Astra VXR is not.

We choose the cars we like and because they suit us better in some way (price, practicality, dealer location, features etc) and not maybe because they are the best at being the fastest/best handling etc. But being subjective about which is the best is down to the individual in most circumstances, but dealing with facts can help in many cases too :)

I used to go on there to wind them up as they really thought they were the fastest most untouchable hot hatch people on the road. Truth is even the "mighty" Vectra VXR when tuned to the limit of the standard turbo would get tanned by a K04 TFSi 2.0T car.

New Insignia VXR and the forthcoming Ashtray VXR are worth watching though. Poxhall are finally catching up after 5 years.

The new Astra should be interesting with it's new power plant. But the Insignia is a joke IMO.. With software it barely makes an extra 30bhp and add to that it's quite frankly ridiculous kerb weight (1800-1900kgs), it's power to weight when stock is not much more than the Corsa VXR..

I won't disagree Ben - from what I have seen, the Insignia uses broadly the same power unit as what was in the Vectra VXR. However it does have four wheel drive and better chassis than the joke that was the Vectra VXR before it.

The Insignia VXR is a better car than the Vectra VXR :)

Owned a burg and vx racing now cupra k1 never going back vxr again the chassis on vxr are horse manure torque still wants put you in a bush constantly but is fun at same time!!

Having a fight with car daily sometimes is tedious!!

Cupra easier drive more relaxing quieter, vxr seats Are good prefer cupra love the hardback buckets look class!!
Vxr console piano black in the burg n vxracing much nicer than cupra steering wheel nicer vxr large foam padded unlike hard cupra 1 !!

But these days vxr is cheap as chips they going to be like civic ep3 in few years be loads more people buying them as they dirt cheap for the speed they go !!
