hi just bought a seat ibiza cupra 1.8t 20v . the problem i have got is that a warning light has come on, on the dash. In the manual it says (diagnosis):-The pilot light will switch on in the event of a breakdown in the engine s electrical system. What does this mean is it a service warning or am i going to have some major problem to deal with, If anyone can help i would be most greatfull thanx:shrug:

I assume you mean the EML = Engine managment light? On the right hand side of the cluster and looks like a small picture of a engine.

If so it could be anything, you`ll need to get it hooked up to a fault finder or better still find someone on here with vag-com if you dont have it yourself.

How is the car running? if its running ok it could be somthing as easy as a sensor.

Where abouts are you?

I have a Ibiza FR TDI 130 where the diagnosis light is on and the coil light is flashing. Yet the car still drives well. It has done 47,500 miles. Any one else had this problem?

Hi folks, I'm a new new member but by no means new to my 2003 Leon Cupra T which I bought new. Dispite its excellent reliability over the years and 65k I now have a problem. The car started suffering from hesitation and I was told by a vw mechanic that it was very likely to be the maf. So I disconected it and all was well and I ran the car for a little while like that but with two yellow dash lights on - engine managment and the traction control light. When I replaced the maf only the traction light went off and it does not seem to run so well when idling and there is some hesitation again so. The car was Revo'd about 4 years ago with a Forge diverter but apart from that it is standard. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

sounds like ur maf is fudged mate also this is the mk3 ibiza section but no worries if it drives better with maf unplugged then that is most likely your problem easily replaced think around £70 on exchange basis

Thanks for your quick reply. The maf is new (or recon) from an ebay shop but I noticed it is not a Bosch. When I reconnect the old Bosch maf the engine managment light stays on also. In the back of my mind I heard or read that with out the maf connected it makes the fueling too rich and so can knacker the cat or lambda sensor. Is this true, or is it a case of getting a pukka maf? Also do the light need resetting?

na without the maf connected it will run on pe set baseline table so should be fine ye unless u clear it it the eml may stay on for a bit but wat u could try is put the new maf on in future i would recomend a bosch item and disconnect battery for 10 mins which should clear it, if it comes back could be maf or could be sumthin else if it dont come back on happy days, but if it does would recommend vag com

Hi again. Well you were band on aboout disconnecting the battery, all lights cleared on the dash but car running like a bag of s**t. Feels like the turbo's been disconnected, and as for the kangarooing, and very poor mpg according to the computer....... Now disconnect the maf when I got home so hopefully tomorrow the car will be back to normal so to speak. Next step is to get a bosch maf and hope all is sorted:cartman:

Hi, well I bought a Bosch refurbished MAF on Friday and the car is running and performing like a dream. I disconnect the battery, and all the lights have been rest. Many thanks for all your help.

One thing though, since reconnecting the battery the radio will not allow me to but the code in. The display shows 2 SAFE. In the manual it says that there this is a timed lockout that must be respected. It has been a few days now and it is still showing the same 2 SAFE. Any ideas?
