Hi everyone.

I have tried two different branded diagnostic tools on my 1.4 sport and have had no luck with either of them. Both have shown me an error more or less to the words of being unable to make a connection or link to the cars ecu, therefore being unable to give me a scan, however both reset the computer and all trip computer readings.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of this or of a diagnostic tool that works??

Also ever since i tired using them, when the ignition is switched off the needles (rpm, mph, fuel and temp) all remain in the same place and don't zero until the ignition is switched back on again. I am completely baffed....

Would really appreciate some help

Out of interest which scan tools have you tried?

Ones that will work, as long as the car is still "intact" are VCDS and Gendan VAG tool. I'm sure that there are many more.

Resets your trip computer AND forces the needles to stay where they were with ignition on - oh, that's not good at all (but you've worked that out already!).

You would need to check the specs for these two devices to see if there is any obvious reason why they do not seem to be compatible with VAG products - I'd expect that these two should be okay for engine emissions types of codes though.
