"Any catalyst fitted as original equipment but missing is a failure"

So taking that applies for Diesels as-well.
I'm about to have mine removed on my A4 2.5TDI - however the standard catalysts on this engine are tucked right behind the engine in-between the bulkhead - its almost impossible to see them.

The MOT tester would have to try very hard to try and find them - so I guess it just depends on the tester.

I think its just a visual thing at the moment. You could remove the cat and using a very long drill bit (the ones which go though walls) drill and knock out the inside. They have been doing this on the Jag X type forum for years now. :D

Its going to be a visual thing and not down to emmisions. If the car had a cat fitted from new they will expect it to still be there. :(

Guess it depends on the testers call

Diy HID's are the next thing they are going to have a go at.

Here we go.

Page 8 - "Catalytic converter missing"

From
Testing Directive Changes to vehicle testing: OTHER ITEMS

"Section 7.1 – Exhaust system

The major change in this section is that a catalytic converter missing becomes a REASON FOR REJECTION. This is likely to be a major factor for some vehicles first used before August 1995 that only require a non-cat emissions test, but were originally fitted with a catalyst."

Similarly, there is a clamp down on HID conversions

From Testing Directive Changes to vehicle testing: LIGHTING
"The Department for Transport considers that after-market systems should be required to meet the same safety standards as that applied in respect of these lamps at vehicle Type Approval. Therefore, in order to pass the MOT test, vehicles fitted with after-market HID systems would also need to be fitted with headlamp cleaning and self-levelling systems. Some high specification estate cars are fitted with a self-levelling suspension system and this would be considered as adequate for the purpose."

The above isn't correct.

I can't be bothered going to scan the page about CATs in, but like I already said, it only applies to vehicles that get a full emissions test, which diesels do not

I really cannot comment on what is correct or not as I did not write any of it myself but copied it from another forum. I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating as we will soon know if people get failed on a decat or a HID conversion.

Yeh its all over the internet wrongly. The proof is posted above.

Thats a page out of the official VOSA testers manual.

Get a new garage

Yes I will go and buy a new garage for my house.
This will clearly give my old mechanic enough knowledge to give me correct information?

See that? its sarcasm, its really f***ing annoying and half my posts you comment on are sarcastic and everyones wrong or lying in your eyes.

I seen you arguing on that other thread earlier, think its time to grow up....you must be like what? 30 years old?

wow come yourself down fella.
in vroomtshh`s defence diesels do NOT get emissions tested they get smoke/smog tested the new laws are not really new the missing cat thing as said above has always been a law because any missing silencer or part of the exhaust is deemed as a failure doesnt mean every garage will fail your car because it doesnt look complete.

but if it was a petrol without a cat and it fails emissions test the car is a failure the same as if the petrol car wasnt running correctly and the emissions were all over the place it could fail.

its all down to how anal/efficient the garage want to be.
