I'm sure the dealers report said my injectors were ok so don't think it's that - when one of mine failed recently the car just cut out dead.

you said disconnecting the maf fixes this issue - yet fitting a new MAF didn't?? I'm confused, this issue is well dodgy.
I'm going to try a few things, then it'll go into the local garage and I'll just get them to start changing stuff

your £2 fix is merely masking the issue.
I know it's only £2 and it seems to work but this is my company car so I don't care if it costs £500 to fix it - I ain't paying, work will be.
And even if it was my car, I'd still like to know what is actually broken.

My EGR is removed now so im not masking anything, It was a cheap fix and served its purpose until i got round to completely removing the EGR

Do you not realise that if your company is better off, you will be better off? It always amazes me how short sighted some people seem to be about work expenses. The company won't be paying bonuses and pay rises if they are making losses, and they will likely pay better pay rises and bonuses if they are making more profit.
SEAT are useless. If there is no ecu error codes to tell them what to replace they haven't got a clue what to do.
Before I send my car to a real mechanic to look at I just thought I'd look here for the proper answer but seems like no one knows what the issue is. Some people on here have just put up with this issue for over a year which is just silly.

my car has been a bag of sh*t for three weeks was told to change the maf but that was not the problem and as normal seat said i would need a new turbo . so took to a friend at vw he took one look under the bonnet and his reply was your manifold is blowing the hole engine bay is covered in black dust, funny when they changed the maf sensor the seat guy did not see all the dust in the engine bay. i had all the both problem no power the car was fine in 1,2,3 and then lost all get up and goin 4 ,5 ,6 . plug the hole on manifold just to check this was the problem and the car was good as new , new manifold next week.
To a point yeah.
But I want it fixed properly instead of cutting corners. Fixing this is stil cheaper than them buying me a new car.

No pics as I am not running car at mo . But if you want to check its the same problem just take cover of engine so you can see manifold turn car on and before the car heat up you can feel and smell the gases coming out. Also just run ur hand over the top of the engine should be quite clean is ur hand is black u may have the same problem.

Yes, unplugging the MAF solved the problem but replacing didn't - I posted a thread about that specifically on here. I have the EGR gasket mod - made no difference at all.
When mine does it, you can see the engine literally shaking in the bonnet - almost jumping about!! The car sounds rough as hell, like it's coughing, the exhaust fumes are very hot if you put your hand near it (far more so than normal). This is what leads me to think it's a stage 1 regen but it seems to be far worse than anyone else reports (most people say they don't even notice it).
So far I have tried replacing:
Fuel filter
EGR Gasket
MAF
None help.

Wish I could lol, but unfortunately I don't have a spare either 700 or 1400 quid (depending on whether it's binned or replaced). Having said that, it has done 110k and they reckon they need changing at around 100k. I've had the problem since about 60k though.
I have the exact same issue on my 2006 2.0 TDI FR, the engine shakes like crazy and sounds like a bag of spanners, runs extremely hot and very strong fumes.
Going to price up DPF removal tonight as a final attempt to cure and if not its time to get rid.
