Diesel fuel additive advice

Been using supermarket fuel since the mid 80's in all our cars (diesel and petrol) and have never used additives. Some of our cars have done big mileages, a Golf GTi did over 100,000 and ran as good when I sold it as when it was new, had supermarket fuel at least 99% of the time.
To say that Supermarket fuel is not "good fuel" is crazy. All fuel sold in the UK has to meet the relevant BS EN standard, all you get from buying branded fuel is a bigger credit card bill every month.
Supermarket fuel comes form the same depots as branded fuels, supermarkets don't make fuel just like they don't make cornflakes or cheese. The branded ones supposedly get some top secret stuff added that makes them better. All brands say theirs is better than the other brands but there is no proof.
Keep your money in you pocket and buy whatever fuel is convenient. Buying fuel form a supermarket with a big turnover is better than buying Shell from a garage that only sells a small amount whilst the remainder goes stale underground.

Thats not to say that supermarket ones are crap, but I believe ASDA and Morrisons do have more bio-diesel in than Shell and the likes, and our diesels don't like the bio rubbish!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm not true as the tanker is compartmented.
Supermarket fuel is lower quality and grade and has more bio and less additive in it to make things cheaper.
Millers diesel eco max is the best additive and cures all kind of running issues too due to the additive pack and cetane improver in it

They all use the same base fuels yes, however they don't all use the same additives in their fuel, which are only added at the pump.
Morrisons is also 7% biodiesel, which is a big no no for DPFs if you're a diesel user.
There is definitely a difference in the fuel additives added at the pump, because I don't magically run 3mpg worse on ASDA fuel vs Shell fuel.
Personally, I use Millers Diesel Ecomax.
Well after 30 years of logging fuel bought I have never found any difference in fuel consumption when i have occasionally bought branded stuff.
We have run DPF fitted cars on Morrisons (fair to say we mostly use Tesco and Asda) and never had a problem with a DPF or a regen.
Carry on wasting money, more cheap fuel for me.
Round my way shell is regularly the cheapest, plus it's less than a mile from my house. To to to any other station I'd have to travel a further three miles, equating to about 15p x 6 miles which is 90p. So the fuel would have to be over 2p a litre less than shell for it to be worth my going elsewhere!

None of the supermarkets are the cheapest fuel around here.
How many miles do you have on your DPF fitted car? I bet your DPF needs replacing nice and early compared to someone who uses better fuel.
Also, if you've never had a regen, I would suggest your car is broken, as your car SHOULD be regenerating.
I've noticed I do a lot more dpf regens whilst using Morrisons diesel(7% bio) in comparison to shell regular diesel.
I don't know if it's all in my head but I think I get better miles from shell as well. I still use Morrisons with it being 5p cheaper a litre or so cheaper.

Plus one from me, you can buy it in 5L tins from millers online, think it was about £40 lawt time I got it
We had the BMW 118D over 5 years and did about 37,000 miles. It did a regen when it was needed, you could tell when changing gear as the engine note was different, obviously on the motorway you did not have a clue when it was doing a regen. Never had a DPF issue.
Wife has had a Kia Ceed CRDi with a DPF for almost 3 years and 28,000 miles. It does a regen every 300 miles which is how it is designed to work. Never had an issue.
All diesel sold in the UK meets the requirements of BS EN 590. All diesel cars sold in the UK are designed to run on BS EN 590 diesel. The snake oil certain chains add and charges for does nothing, its only what people think,there is no scientific evidence.

I usually only use an additive every 10k. I probably run a 50/50 mix of supermarket and branded fuel based on wherever I am when the fuel light comes on. I've never noticed a difference in performance or economy.
I used Shell V Power a couple of times and Total Excellium but again never noticed any differences.

Current Passat (CR140) has done 30k on Tesco diesel. Previous Mazda 6 did 40k in ten months on Tesco diesel. Prior to that had C5's that did an average 140k over 3 years mainly on supermarket diesel. No dpf or other engine related problems on any.
Millers ecomax is what I used to use in my old FR 1.9tdi and it seemed to reduce the smokiness but it doesn't improve mpg or anything and didn't make it feel any smoother IMO. I used a single shot in each full tank but the bottle label says you can use a double shot
