Ive just bought an SDI Ibiza which im collecting this weekend, now I know the TDI is the better one, but im not a banker so dont have enough money for one of those.

Having worked on petrols ive used things like throttle body cleaner to clean up the engine and get it running well.

Id be grateful if the diesel experts on here could give me some advice on what ways I could get the diesel running as well as possible.

Ill be changing the air filter, and have got some fully synthetic fuchs oil which will do it well. But any other tips will be much appreciated.

cheers

Wow a ibiza SDI!!

Someone came on the other month with a leon SDI and was getting mega MPG's!! so you should be laughing all the way to the bank!

Best way to look after these cars would be to get VAG COM a computer system for reading and logging engine sensors from your laptop e.g. air flow in boost pressure bla bla

10 - 20 quid lead off ebay and you can get freeware version of VAG COM that does the basic tests.

other than that just make sure you got the best oil for your derv and all the filters are changed.

dont lose your under tray it also helps!

Attention to detail, perhaps? Boost pressure in an SDI would be non existent.

you could disable the egr and I believe there is also a flap which works in conjunction (throttle-ekk) which may stand disabling sort of Tunes-- to make it breath more easily---sorry, I'll get me coat

Im starting to like the sound of diesels (no pun intended), they seem simpler and more well behaved, ill have to get used to the extra noise, but im doing about 64 miles a day in a 2.0 8v ibiza, so i should save a heap on fuel.

How often do you change oil? im going to put some fully synthetic in there (fuchs) and just wondering how often keeps it tidy?

Rob, does this oil lead to losening a lot of crap in an older engine, is that a good thing?

I wish there was a definate answer to this one.

Normal oil has synthetic ie part synthetic in it, so theres probably as much chance as new part synthetic dislodging anything in there. To be honest looking inside the oil cap it looked good in there ie smooth etc.

Picked up the car today, promptly broke down, much apologies from garage and breakdown people fixed it, ended up being the accelerator electronic cable connection stopping it from going over idle.

Very tidy engine, im impressed they are very smooth for a diesel. Got a couple of jobs to do on it, firstly working out how to open the boot which refuses to open, and the rear wiper stuck in one position.

mind you only seven hundred so im happy with that.
