Well, I ordered the cable at the weekend, should receive it sometime in the week. I've had a quick gander at the VAG COM software, but without having the cable, I can't really do alot. I also notice that the software is locked; any idea how/what it is locked to/for??

Any quick tips on how I can get the best results from the diags; or at least what I need to look for??

I got my cable and I've had a quick look over the various modules of the VAG-COM software; seems that only the 'Engine' section applies to me, which is a bit of a let down.

I did a fault code check and it came up with 'Intake Manifold Pressure' and also said something about being intermittent. I can't remember the exactly codes it gave; I will run the diag on the car again when I get more time.

I'm not sure if that is an 'old' problem which has been sorted, or what's causing the problem now.

Ok, I cleared the error codes and drove the car to work; it seemed to be ALOT better, but on the way home it had a different story and it happened again.

Here is the log output from the VAG-COM:

1 Fault Found:

00575 - Intake Manifold Pressure

17-00 - Control Difference

--------------------------------------------------------

1 Fault Found:

00575 - Intake Manifold Pressure

So there you have it; the intake manifold is the culprit!

Now I can go into the garage; and show her whats wrong; something she should of been able to tell me!!!

its the difference in pressure measured by the ecu in the manifold thats the culprit not the manifold itself

id be getting in there looking for boost pipe leaks myself

as its intermittent concentrate on pipes that have movement when the engine is revving

I checked the air filter last night; to see if it was changed when they said it was; when I was fitting the top back on, I noticed a small material covered pipe which I located back onto the top of the air box; I was curious to how this came off and whether or not I pulled it off; so I tried to get the pipe back off again, but it seemed very secure :/

It didn't appear to make much difference to my journey this morning, it seemed to loose power again, and the car did seem a little more sluggish to start with, not as nippy as it normally is.

I have noticed that I am getting a weird black residue around my passenger side indicator, it kind of dribbles out around the light and down the wing. I have looked under the bonnet around the battery and there seems to be like an oil/dirt build up around the inner wing. I have checked around the area and there does not seem to be any to show where it could be coming from. It does not smell like oil, I would say it was more liquified dirt.

I have also started to get a fair amount of black smoke from the exhaust when I put my foot down, I'm not sure if this is related to the black gunk I'm finding on my indicator/wing.

Just finding the time to get under the bonnet and have a poke about :(

Editing your spelling
the small pipe you found will help a little with controlling the vacuum but like you say thats not the main problem here.

You have very nearly found it, the oil you find leaking is from the boost leak, oil gets into the intake system from the CCV thus its usual for leaking joints to be wet with a little oil.

Hi, back with more news.

Well I've finally found out what the problem is; I was looking over the car with a mate earlier today, and we found a hole approx. the size of a 5 pence piece in the pipe which goes down into the wing of the car and into the intercooler... Lots of air can be felt when the engine is idling, and more so when the engine is revved; which would explain the air rushing under the dash.

Now I need to find out what the part is called (or part number), so I can actually get hold of a new one. Anyone have any idea of it's actual name (if it has one)??
