Dip stick

I'm either being one or my CUPRA has issues. It's '10 with 8k on the clock.

I went to check the oil today while the engine was running and as I pulled the dip stick out the engine revs dropped and it barely ticked over. This happened either hot or cold and went away when dip stick replaced???

Any ideas please

I think that's pretty normal, I remember audis doing that. I think it's just the way the whole breather system works and I certainly wouldn't be concerned unless it was doing it with the dipstick in place. But I'm sorry but you are being a little bit of a dipstick in the sense that you never check the oil when the engine's running. You have to leave the car for a few minutes with the engine off to give the oil a chance to settle in the sump then check the level because the oil is circulating all round the engine while it's running.

hahahaha from the title i was wondering how long it took for the op to be referred as the dip stick in the reply lol lol.

but as he said why do you want to check the oil with the engine running?

best bet is to leave it overnight and on a level road or drive way , this will also show signs of water ingress usaully from short journeys or head gasket failures , would show as a milky substance.

I always thought you needed to check the engine once it was (a) fully warmed up and (b) left switched off for a minute or two for the oil to settle. And parked on level ground of course.
