Pretty sure my dual mass flywheel is on its way out and have been looking for a replacement only to come accross single mass conversions

What are the pros and cons of both and wheres the best place to buy from

thanx in advance

SMF
Pros
Very hard to brake
Wont need replacing everytime you replace clutch
RPM Picks up alot quicker
Cons
Noisy (More so on a TDI)
Pedal is heavy

Helix Motorsport and SACHS make these for the 02Q Gearbox

Silent SMF
Pros
Silent Design like a DMF but better
RPM Picks up quicker than DMF,but slower than Non-Silent SMF
Cons
Heavier than a normal SMF,Lighter than a DMF (Pro or con you work it out)

Southbend Clutches make these for the O2Q Gearbox (Ive got one of these just not fitted yet)

DMF
Pros
Pedal is very light
Not Noisy (Unless its bust)
Cons
They Brake Easily
They Brake Easily
They Brake Easily
Need replacing when clutch is replaced

I have the southbend stage 3 drag clutch with SMF lying here too which I have not fitted either yet. Once fitted it will be whole new learning experience for me with the clutch bite point again LOL. Something to look forward to.

Yeh the Endurance one will be grabby as hell! I went for the Daily one which was rated at 450lb.ft so should be good for me even on stage 3

I don't mind though tbh, just looking forward to getting all the work completed and enjoying the power that comes with it. I will be fitting the clutch kit and LSD together.

Now that would be awesome. I am fitting a few of the goodies tomorrow so getting a little excited now lol.

I'm thinking of buying this too as my DMF sounds like its on the way out!:(
Where did you source yours from mate?

Just signed for my SMF Southbend clutch. My OE DMF is failing after 60k.

its about 400 but when the turbo breaks im going to upgrade to a billet ballbearing turbo! :D (all in good time)

So you reckon that sorta clutch is overkill atm!?

Well you need to work out what lb.ft you will be running when you have the new turbo and then find the one thats closest to it

That one looks to be the dogs dangles but is probably overkill

You say its overkill but it wont affect it negatively if its installed will it?

Nope, i would imagine that clutch set up is VERY grabby though, ie Very ON/OFF

so not very good for daily driving

Is that what i need to convert from an DMF to SMF?

Ive got a stage3 .... but havent uprated the clutch yet (yes i know) !!! lol

That is the clutch kit I have. If you get used to the biting point it will be fine for daily driving. My brother in law back home had one and it wasn't really that bad, you just have to get used to the biting point. At least with that you can be assured your clutch will be MORE than within tolerable limits.
