I have been looking for a mpv of the smaller variety for a couple of months and thought that I would get the Mazda 5.

However the latest What Car has a feature on the new Ford S-Max and I like the look of that.

My question is looking at the bhp/torque figure for the S-Max 2.0 Tdi they are the same as the 2.0 diesel used in VAG cars. Is this just coincidence or are they the same unit?

I'm interested to know because this could be the deciding factor as I can't find a company that remaps the Mazda diesel engine.

Many thanks.

Ford share their diesel engines with peugeot/citroen and of course jaguar and land rover. The old galaxy had VW diesel engines but the s-max platform is based on the new galaxy which is a lengthened new mondeo plaform.

Probably just a coincidence that they post the same figures, the galaxy had vag engines because they were all built in the same plant..
