As per the title really, I was renewing the insurance on the ibiza earlier and on several sites it came up as having a thatcham alarm fittied based on the registration number. Is there any way I find out, without ski masking up and taking a crow bar to a door?

you could read your car manual mate, im sure it would be in there. or a quick way to find out would be to lock the car on the button and then open the door or boot with the key? they alarm should sound then i believe

You'd probably struggle to open the boot with the key....another alternative is to lock the car with the window open and reach inside to open the door.

I thought alarms were standard equipment though so would be surprised if you don't?

Easiest way to tell is to look at your interior light.
If you see plastic behind it, that will be the volumetric sensors and then you do have an alarm.

Excuse the small pic, but this is what it will look like with an alarm, you can see the two volumetric sensors.

As the above really, I wondered the same thing when I picked mine up, read the manual and did a practical experiment to check ;)

Just lock your car as normal, wait 10 minutes, then open the car using the key BUT DON'T PUT IT IN THE IGNITION. After 15 seconds, the alarm should go off. Not that its very impressive mind, but its an alarm all the same :)

Thanks for the replies.

I definitely don't have the volumetric sensors shown the picture but I'll try opening the door once it's locked and see what happens.
