Do not use The Deal Negotiator

The Deal Negotiator

I have just picked up a new FR TDI from TDN. I dealt with Matt Woods ((even though his office seemed to have at least a couple of others in it).
He gave me the best price out of the six odd quotes i got and could deliver on the date i wanted which was a saturday. Then i was told after paying deposit that they were not open on a saturday.
It all went ok but some thinks seem to fall on deaf ears with regards to collection dates and the car being registered new on a private plate. I seem to tell him things on the phone and via email which were not done and I had to chase him a bit in the two weeks prior to collecting the car. He was very poor at returning phone calls.
I ordered the car about 6 to 8 weeks prior to collection due to wedding & holidays etc.
The car was collected from the Sidlow PDI centre on some little industrial estate. The guy handing over the car had no idea about the car or how anything worked. The mats i ordered were not fitted and he did not know anything about them. There was no paperwork for the AA cover and we also questioned the Seat FR TDI offer which he did not anything about, but he said he would get Matt Woods to call about it (still waiting).

The car itself is fine, but there are the issues above i will be taking up with him. I am giving him the benifit of the doubt due to the postal strike, but i wont hold my breath.
My wife collected the car with my father who has brought new golfs over the last couple of years and is thinking of buying a new one, via an internet broker has been put off doing that way now.

At the end of the day people stay in business by customers buying things off you. No customers = no money = no business = no job. It is not rocket science so why do people think we should be so gratefull for giving them our money.

Yep! Picked up my TFSI FR DSG one week ago which did not have the FR badges on the wing although the 07 plate in the showroom did? Dealer stated they no longer do the wing badges on new cars!

Glad they don't put the badges on. Not bothered if people know it's diesel I'm proud of it :) But Tdi on the wing just doesn't do it for me plus I like the mystery  If you don't know about the exhaust you may wondering if it's an oil burner or not

Parts at my dealers said you couldn't put mud flaps on an FR. Can you confirm you can and that Seat fitted them and i'll chase them up on that ta :)

I've got mudflaps on my FR, so they definitely sell them :)

They're a VERY easy fit (30 mins max all around) and you dont have to take any wheels off, so dont let them charge you £60 for fitting like they wanted to do to me. Just fit em yourself :)

Nice one but you realise I've just posted a thread saying once the spoiler is fitted I'm spending no more for awhile  Now I gotta put something else on the list
I'll get them ordered soon and whip em on at work then :)

No it's ok thanks. A letter is on the way to him. I'll see what he has to say. Maybe I'm just being a bit naive with buying a car not the traditional way.
Let me know how it goes? Where are you picking it up from the PDI centre ?

Picking my sweety up tomorrow but been told i wont be getting a Tank of Diesel as agreed as he said it was a jesture and not on the order form just word of mouth and didn't like my attitude towards him. Guess i wont be leaving my tax in my part ex after all :)

Also told me i had to be thier by 11 as the car is not yet registured or tax even though he has got the insurance documents. got a funny feeling he is expecting me to refuse the car. Rather that or the brakes aint going to work the moment i drive off

Feeling quite happy now even after all the miss haps though nothing has been done.

I have had my FR TFSI for seven months, I got it from drive the deal.

A few words of advice:

If they say they are going to collect you from the railway station expect a long wait, I stood for nearly half an hour, this was after I told the when I was going to arrive, called 30 minutes out to remind them and called while I was waiting.

Don't expect to see Matt and don't expect to be treated like anything but an inconveniance.

Check the car very carefuly,

1. I spotted a cover missing on the drivers side (looks like a scart socket behind it, guess it was where they plug the VAGcom in) the guy I was dealing with just got one off another car.

2. I had a connector and some foam visible under the dash on the passenger side footwell, but was told 'they come like that'

3. One of the posts on the rear center headrest was bent, I didn't find out about this until a two months later when I tried to move th headrest.

I menntioned 2&3 to my local dealer when I took the car in for a problem with the driver seat, they said that there should be a tray in the passenger footwell and the headrest was not right. In their opinion the PDI had missed both of these points and I needed take it up with the supplying dealer (they were unable to sort under warrenty as they need to show the damage was from new, the did however give me the prices and part numbers, for the Headrest £86 and the Tray £26)

I contacted Matt to see if he would pay for my dealer to do the work.

Eventually I spoke to him (he takes long lunches at odd times, doesn't always get his messages (I think the others in the office get a but pi$$ed off with him not returning calls, but he is probably Mr Sidlows love child) He forgets to call back or will call a work number when you have left for the day).

Initaily he offered me a £50 'goodwill gesture' in the end after about 40mins on the phone, I agreed to pay him £20 and he would supply the headrest (it did arrive after about 3 weeks and cost him over £5 to post). I gave up on the undertray, ordered it from my local dealer who supplied it in 3 days and said I coul take it and make sure it fitted before I paid, they even ordered every possible fitting on the Lean dashboard as they coud not tell from the drawing which it was and the posted the correct ones to me when they came in (Advantage Seat in Lincoln by the way).

All in all The Deal Negotiator is Cheap but it is becoming aparent why, In the future I will use him (and his like) as a negotiating tool when I go to a 'real' dealer

Hope this Helps

I found it does not matter on the type of car but the attitude of a person.

I got an A3 and after signing it he realised he gave £500 superguard for free because he tried to scam me with it, worked out better for me though as I got some free options.

I never got a progression call, courtesy call, etc and he addressed me like a child.

The deadline was 1-2 weeks after agreed date and when I got the car the wheels were damaged.

He tried to fob me off and sign the contract so it can be off their hands so I told him I do not want it. His boss told him to swap the wheels with another A3 which they did in 10 minutes.

After that I noticed foot prints on the car mats, 39 miles on the clock, heaters blasted and music blasted. I got talking to the sales exec and he accidently said the delay was due to it being delivered to the wrong dealer. The dealer was about 35 miles away so the car definatly got driven by someone, obviously he would not admit that.

Then they cocked up the finance agreement and cost me an extra few quid a month.

So this happens anywhere, I don't expect respect but I want what is agreed and I know they rag brand new cars at any sales place before they give it to the customer. Some cars have as high as 90 miles on them!

The sales people are idiots and it is pot luck if they are nice to you or not. Good luck!

I finally have it at last

I arraived at sidlow nice and early at 10am to find the garge full of people buying cars (not bad for a day they don't open)

I had a quick look around the car looks really good noticed a bit of condinsation in a rear light but will keep an eye on it and a little rust inside the tail pipe but giving it a rub it comes off.

Had to as the bloke for the connections for the ipod connector which he didnt know anythink about.

What really innoyed me was how dirty the wheels where it looked like it had been driven as the drivers mat was dirty (Very Dirty) Was p off with his attitude about it all not happy to do anything least it was taxed from a postoffice in the village wounder if they took my car!!!

Still waiting about information about the AA and track day though so might have to contact Mat again Oh the joy.

Quick question are their FR mats as the ones i got where just standard black
Also i have notice an annoying high pitch sqeek which sounds like it may be comming from the back Ideas.

Supprised you got some think out of him be p off again as he has quoted somebody with the same spec as my car except they have met paint for an extra £20 and he tells me thier is no room to do anythink

demontank, I never got any information about the SEAT assistance when I bought my car. Rang up the main dealer and basically there is a number to ring in the handbook and that's it.

My mats are standard black as well with a small badge that says Leon on the drivers side. Think these are fairly standard as the Cupra on the track day had the same.
