Mine is the same. It gets boomier once hot.

I can only assume this is related to the metal heating up. (That or we're imagining it).

A hot exhaust always sounds different to a cold one. Same applies to cats too. When you have let everything heat up you'll find it sounds louder when driving and idle will have a deeper burble to it too :)

I believe its a combination of the engine revving better due to lower friction and that the exaust system like the cat warming up and allowing better airflow.
Also I may note that on a cold start the auto-idle will kick in so the car will run a tad bit leaner till the engine is up to temprature.

Awwww... cats are so cute.

I made a complete tit of myself about 4 yrs ago on the Escort Mk5 register. We were chatting about revving on your driveway just to hear your RS2000 roar (lol) and I said I don't do it often, but I Love the look I get from my old-man neighbour and someone said, "Not to mention the damage done to your cat!"

I said, "Yeh well... it runs away everytime it hears my car engine. Stupid thing."

No amount of trying to talk my way out of it helped.. I was branded an uber-noob.. And rightly so! What the hell was I thinking?!?!! :'(
