Hey guys. Been scouring the site since i got my Ibiza in November , what a great resource ;)

I'm in the process of fixing a few things on my Ibiza and after some advice.

So I took a gamble on a 2007 1.9tdi (pd100) sport with a engine map and 56k on the clock. This is my first car after learning on my Girlfriends C2 so the power was quite a change :D

I managed to Kerb it pretty badly in December ruining my rear passenger side tyre, (new one was put on front passenger side) front passenger side hub and wishbone. They were replaced. When i got it back from the garage it seemed to be going great but a few weeks later steering and handling in corners started feeling a bit odd and it pulls to the right a fair bit. before i got it to the garage the wheel was sitting a few cm farther back then it should, i was getting rubbing when turning tight! After getting it back it is still about 1cm or less set back from the other side.

I've taken a while to get round to it but I've had a good look around and suspect i have a broken front driver side coil and a bent ARB, maybe dodgey tie rods

(will check them next time i have it off the ground.

The coil has a pointy end at the top and does not sit in the same place as the passenger side coil in the top mount. Confused me because the top mount doesn't seem to have stops to but the end of the coil against like the bottom does? Or maybe i just missed it? I also found a bit of coil lying on the ground a few months back but the handling never felt that bad so i just assumed it was another cars!

Having looked at guides and my Haynes manual i feel like changing the coil is something i can do. I already changed my outer CV joint thinking the clicking when cornering (on bumps) was the CV. Been looking at replacement coils on ebay and elsewhere. I've found coils for £14 each which seems great but i wonder if anyone reckons the quality would be there? I'll probably do both front coils at the same time. Do the coloured dots have to match a spec? Or as a pair? Mine are green green and silver

My ARB seems to have a bend in it on the passenger side

I've looked at replacement ARBs and some seem to have weird bends as but mine is just on either side of the pssenger side frame mounting point/bush

The car seems to roll a lot when i turn hard left. once the driver side front wheel seemed to shift in in the car and maybe even wobble a bit, not nice. I wonder if it's just the coil, ARB and having one new tyre on front passenger and an old nearing replacement one on the driver side

(deffo gonna change this but want to fix the rest so i can get an alignment at the same time)

So i find i have to turn the wheel a lot more than i'd expect to at slow speeds, i suspect the tie rods or maybe attachments in the steering column? Any ideas? Not checked the fluid level yet, could that make it unresponsive? Will check the fluid soon. Feckin battery in the way!

I'm also after some advice as to whether i should just stick with stock or if this car is a good base for upgrades. It seems fairly rusted around the older hub and wishbone but i guess they're just parts,

The engine and a lot of the rest of the car feels good. Once i get it up and running well i want to fit a new nicer ARB, rear ARB, possibly strut braces (are they useful?) Maybe coilovers and further engine mods in the future

I need to get a mounting bracket thing for my headlight(it says 1% on it)
Anyone know if i can get just the bracket and where or what it's called?

I have a bunch of pictures but can't link to them, need more posts!

Anyway, sorry for the essay, hopefully you guys can help me a bit. Thanks! :)

sounds like you need a good check over or is the MOT due? then when all's sound a full 4 wheel alignment space for changing coils (front) is not good and I wouldn't buy coils @£14 get Lesjofors if replacing to normal spec, you might also think about shocks at the same time (if yours are getting to 70K) to save time and money skoda VRS ones will give a comfyier? ride also top mounts if needed

Yeh i'm looking at shocks too, could well be worth it. MOT is not till end of september or something :)
Will look at the VRS ones, cheers bud

Very BIG tip for changing coils / springs.

Use a good quality double hook type compressor and not a cheaper single hook.

Its very possible that you have lost a coil off your spring as its quite common and mine broke and flew out while i was driving which got my attention..

i found changing my suspension a bit of a pain but perfectly possible with the right tools. i just followed this guide.

http://www.seat-ibiza-mk4.co.uk/ibiza_front_shock_absorber_change.htm

funny you mention your wheel is 1cm further back,so is mine but ive had no kerb damage etc,it just happened when i changed a driveshaft but no idea why, car still drives fine and mot time found no issues.

Thanks for the replies. Seen that guide and got some of the tools. Yet to get spring compressors but looking at those sorts of things. I'm looking to do this cheap as my labour is free. I'll maybe get the springs and inspect the shocks in the process then get them if i need to. I don't need my car during the week much so can sit and wait for parts easily enough:)

I'm confused by the VRS shocks. Should i be looking for the original parts or replacement parts? Any idea where i can get a good deal/decent quality? I'll try a few dealers tomorrow or Monday for parts.

Alternatively i could get some lowered shocks/springs? (better to buy once) I'm guessing i'd get better value out of that instead of coilovers if i'm not bothered about the exact height?

they don't have to be genuine VRS shocks it's likely that some vrs/seat sport shocks are the same spec from some manufactures and some especially at the rear may well be different (between manufactures)and give you a choice

I'm currently in the process of getting my suspension changed to VRS spec. Going to get some VRS springs tomorrow (for a whole £ 1.20 I might add). Need to decide on dampers though, thinking about Bilstein B4s 'cause they are readily available for fairly decent money!

Thought my vrs suspension was cheap at £40 but that was for the whole lot :). i bought new top mounts and bearings while i had it apart aswel as it made sense as mine had done 80K.

You will probably find your car sits higher with the vrs springs fitted btw.

ahhh yeah i forgogt about that. Damn it!! it already looks like something out of the paris-dakar.

Hey. Long time since i've posted!

So i changed my springs and a top mount (was only able to get one top mount at the time)

Now looking at changing a load of parts in one fell swoop. Fairly convinced I'll go with the Koni STR front and rear kit, 1 new front top mount, front and rear ARBs ( Dunno what yet), Possibly new tie rods, Possibly one new wishbone and 4 bushes. Oh maybe the engine mount too. Some new tyres too. If that all goes to plan then in the future i'll look at more power

Quick question. When i removed the front struts the black plastic caps on the top of the bump stop were all cracked and essentially destroyed. Anybody know what they are and what they do? Is it possible to buy them alone?

Thanks!

Hi again. Next step is changing lower ball joints (deffo one bad one), installing new suspension (koni str) and installing new front and rear ARBs. My steering is still quite unresponsive (but light) for the first 45 degrees or so then fine. I'm now suspecting it is more the steering rack/fluid that is the problem. Had a good look at lower universal joint and it seems fine. Looked at inner and outer tie rods. Hubs seem fine in this sense.

I still have one wheel with a negative camber after kerbing it. Trying to think what part could be bent and needing replacement or just alignment. (I know ARB is bent and likely bad ARB bushes) Wishbone is new from december and looks fine. The wheel still sits back a cm relative to the other one. Maybe that can be compensated for with tracking or the subframe could be bent? Hopefully not the chassis...

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I suppose it could be the consol or one of it's bolts bent --it has even bee known to only have the lower ball joint to be mounted with 2 of it's 3 bolts re the light steering if may have been altered with vag-com there are five settings from memory but that should be the last job after every thing else is fixed

I have a ibiza mk 4 1.9 tdi sport. 2008. Bought it new. 129,000 miles on the clock.
Still going strong. Love it to bits, thats why i still have it !!!!!!!!!!!
Changed cambelts at 58,000 miles and 120,000 miles.
Great motor.
Standard apart from pipercross panel filter.

Andy

Cheers guys. It's a nice car and definitely something i want to keep if not too expensive. Once these problems are sorted i'll be enjoying it even more :D

I Will check the ball joint bolts. Deffo play in the passenger side one it so two new ones. I'll be so chuffed if my car can drive along without noise hahaha

Have you only got camber on one wheel, I have a LOT of camber on both wheels, not sure quite why either!

Replaced both lower ball joints and tie rod ends. Drives so much nicer now and all the noise is gone. I probably don't really need to replace the front ARB but dunno, it still looks bent to me. Yet to put in my Koni STR. I'll start with rear as that should be quicker.

I'm having trouble finding a rear ARB. all the places i've tried are out of stock! Anybody know where might have one? Not to bothered about the brand as long as it's decent and under £200

Rear suspension now in. Nice and easy! Rains on so fronts will have to wait for now
