when i open my rear driver side door water sometimes (depending on weather we've had obviously) starts to drip / run from underside of door i.e. drain hole no doubt. sometimes it just drips 2 - 3 times, sometimes it pours for approx 6 - 8 secs (think tap that's 'just' on and no more.)

i'm thinking, maybe wrongly, that this water should drain even when door is closed? if it should, can i fix this myself i.e. trim a small section of rubber if that's what's causing the block? i'm loathed to book it in incase it comes back worse or with added rattles!

advice please.

Happens with mine too ... i'm sure its not right, but seems all the cars do this when we did a poll a couple of years ago ...

as soon as you drive off, it drains out, if you reverse of your drive for example you'll see a long line of water where it has drained out the car, yet when the car is parked it doesn't drain at all..

tis normal though.

i think it happens the same way you can do the 'pint of beer upside down and then remove the beer mat and the beer stays in the glass' trick.

slight atmospheric pressure differences (lower inside car) will hold the water in the doors until the door/s are opened and the pressure equalises and the water runs out.

But the holes are on the outside of the door? They must be otherwise the water would drain inside the car (like mine does).

Therefore there wouldn't be a pressure difference.

my concern is if the back doors aren't opened for a few weeks and this coincides with rubbish (i.e. not sunny) weather, this water could be sitting in the bottom of the door for that length of time. surely that can't be good? or do i just have to make a point of opening the rear doors once a week or something to let this water drain?

Civic's are worse, they fill up with about 2 litres of water apparently!
Mine seems to dump the water from inside the door onto the inside of the sills (interior).
I need to look at it soon.
