Hi guys!

I have been thinking about what I want to do with the ibiza when I pick it up and one of the main things that I want to do is to get a decent audio set up.

Now I have all of the parts that I need to fit (minus loom adaptor etc) but I like the idea of fitting a double din unit instead of my current single din.

Now currently I am using a jvc dvd head unit which is great but the screen is tiny, I would like to get this changed into a double din set up. Now I have seen that it is possible as there are many of you out there who have done it but I fail to see any how to's as I know there are some minor issues that need to be adressed when fitting.

The main thing that seems to be a common issue is that part of the dash needs to be cut away in order for the unit to fit flush. If I were to do this then is it possible to re install a single din unit at a later date or am I stuffed? The only reason that I would want to go back to single din is for when I move on to another car.

To go along with the headunit (whatever one I decide on), I am planning on doing a stealth build with a false floor and a hidden sub in the wheel well. Door speakers would then be upgraded at a later date as and when funds allow.

Can anyone please help with the double din situation please!!

Thanks

i can only comment on the fitting of the double dinn systems.

You will need to remove the front fascia so that you have the stereo, storage box and a/c unit panels all disengaged.

Once you have that panel out, try to fit the cage for the double dinn HU into it. If it doesn't fit straight away (which is likely) you will then need to trim down the fascia so that it goes in. Don't trim too much otherwise it wont be a tight fit.

once you do that start with the wiring and get that all setup and fed through to the back so the plugs are accessable.

You will now need to fit put the fascia back on the car screwing it back in all 6 places otherwise you run the risk of it coming away.

Once done push in the cage and secure it accordingly.

Bring up all the cable plugs and then try to fit the HU. It is a very tight fit in there so if it doesn't go first time take it out and grab a set of snips. Where the ISO cables come through at the top you MAY need to chop out a bit of the plastic so you can tuck in some of the cables to allow the HU to fit flush, you dont need to remove the rest of the plastic cage at the back.

Once done and happy ensure everything is securely plugged into the back of the HU and any plug you need access to are within reach, i fed my USB adapter behind the climate control so it came through above the front ash tray. Then secure and finish off.

I didnt fit it myself for the same reasons as you, however a mate of mine did do the fitting for me and I observed (photographic memory you see ;)) and then I was left with this:

hope that helps, just be warned as with most of the Double dinn system's, once they are in, they are pretty tricky to remove so be sure you have everything set up and ready to go before you secure it.

I would also like to know If you can go back to a single din without the missing tabs affecting it because I'm contemplating removing my double din

If you have to cut the surround then it will be a right pain to go back to single din :-/

I'm not sure if I am happy with that :-/

May just go for a flip out single din!

Or you could just purchase a new surround for £15 from sere motors as of when you want to go back to single dinn ;)
