Surprised this hasn't already been brought up on here ( unless I'm blind ) does this affect our cars fr/ cupra/ bocs with the 1.4tsi engine ? If so do you need to still be in the warranty period to take it back for this synth to mineral oil change they are talking about ?

It's the same dsg yes, but best bet would to ring your nearest seat dealer to confirm wether yours is affected. Also as it's a recall I should think it wouldn't matter about warranty

There was certainly no mention of this when I talked to my local main dealer today - my 1.2TSI DSG is in with them for a gearbox failure after months of clutch judder and other oddities. Maybe it is only VW doing the recall, I wonder if the Skoda and Audi guys have heard of this?

3mile - in a word - yes :-(

I seem to recall that the 'wrong oil' story was trotted out in Australia after denying that there was a problem for some considerable time. It was also said that the hot climate contributed to the issue - it struck me as being a little late in the day for VW to realise that Australia was hot! However, there was also a back story regarding a faulty component in the mechatronic unit which seems to have gone quiet of late.

There are a couple of questions which VAG need to answer as a matter of urgency:

1. What are the implications for the life expectancy of DSGs which have been running on the 'wrong oil'?
2. Can we expect a 10 year gearbox warranty as they have in the USA?

I won't hold my breath!

It's your call of course, but personally I would do it ASAP and ask them the previous questions! My vehicle has done 35k and I am concerned as to what will happen in 1,2,3,4 years time - you're talking probably thousands for an out of warranty repair.

@ Craig Funny that, exacty what my local dealer has been saying for the past 2 years!

Perhaps I should also mention that SEAT Customer Assistance told me that even with a new gearbox, there would be no extra warranty attached to it after the 3 year warranty on the car had expired.

I'm fairly sure that the DQ200 is under normal circumstances a 'sealed for life' box. I don't believe it has an oil change at 40k iirc

Thats strange! Iv just had it serviced at a vag specialist and they told me it was due at 40,000?

Of course DYOR but I believe that only relates to the DQ250 wet six speed DSG and other wet clutch DSG's.

The DQ200 as far as I am aware is a seven speed dry clutch and is sealed for life. This is fitted to Fabia vRS, Seat Ibiza and Polo Gti with 1.4tsi and other "lower" power application.....by that I mean not a Golf R32 or Touareg

I'm trying to find something concrete now to link to for you.

I think it indicates that whatever oil was used when they sealed them, was wrong and that is what they need to change.

This is why its probably being highlighted as a recall rather than a simple service issue, because they are probably doing a little more to them than just changing the oil. I've seen reports that mechatronic units are being swapped out.

Agreed, clutch pack mechatronics, some sound like they are replacing the job lot. That is on the recall, apparently letters are in the post to those affected but the recall is "voluntary" so if you have no issue you are not obliged to go in.

My link and point was more on the servicing, if someone tries to charge you for a 40k oil change on a DQ200 I suggest you get them to explain exactly how they will go/went about it
