3mile, are you driving a car with 1.4tsi and DSG, if so then to the best of my knowledge this will be a DQ200 and therefore:

No oil service at 40k

Yes it is covered by the recall in so far as being DQ200 box, how they will contact people who have bought second hand I don't know, perhaps a Harry Potteresque Owl.

As with all things you are safer taking things into your own hands and contacting a few dealers, as per the 40k service statement by a Vag Specialist, don't assume that the dealer even knows what they are talking about, tool up with the info on offer and be prepared to push the point.

I don't know that all DQ200 UK owners are affected

On the statement above that all DSG's are affected, they aren't it's this specific variant.

Lot of misinformation around on this.

Correct. DQ200 7 speed DSG only!!

Which are primarily used in Ibiza mk5 (Boc Cupra & 1.2TSI) and the latest Mk3 Leon's and latest Toledo.

Pretty much anything else in the SEAT family that is a DSG including latest Diesel models and earlier models such as Mk2 Leons etc will be using the 6 speed DSG which is NOT affected.

My understanding of the current situation is that the DQ200 box was supposed to be sealed for life, but that they now need to have their oil changed. Whether the swop from synthetic to mineral oil means that the previously 'sealed for life' boxes will now need scheduled oil changes remains to be seen.

Given the problems I have had with my DSG (which, a week later is still being dissected by the local dealer), I would strongly urge anyone with a DQ200 to have the recall work done. Otherwise there's the risk of SEAT washing their hands of future gearbox problems by saying that you should have had the recall work.

@3mile. Give SEAT Customer Care a bell on 0500 22 22 22 and make sure they have your details. I've owned the car from new and didn't get previous recall info until I chased them.

Im driving a mk5 cupra, i have spoken to a guy at seat uk on the phone and he said mine needs doing, he said that it is purely a "precautionary" measure and he also said "oil change" but i dont know if its an actual oil change or not, so long as its fixed and im not paying then thats fine. My next question is will it matter that my car is modified?

The 7speed DSG boxes have drain and fill holes just like any other box. There are 2 fluid compartment in them; one for the mechatronic section and one for the gear train.
They hold very little fluid and have no filter.

As it's already been mentioned these boxes don't require maintenance unless they have work carried out on them.

The 6 speed however - does.

From Cust Care last evening - apparently is it not a recall but a 'customer satisfaction' issue! Gawd save us from managementspeak. Furthermore, the recalls aren't expected to start until 2014 and (supposedly) letters will not be sent out.

As for the saga with my broken gearbox, the main dealers don't have the tool to remove the mechatronic unit - and it is on back order from Spain. You couldn't make it up could you?

Just contact seated to confirm my 10 plate Cupra has had the mineral oil change. Does this mean it now doesn't need any further change or servicing for the life of the car? Can't get any thing back from seat to confirm it

Am I right in saying that there is also a 7 speed wet box aswell?

there's a new 6 speed reincarnation of the old wet clutch box but I'm not aware of a 7 speed one. There certainly isn't one fitted to mk5 ibizas or mk2 fabias.

Seat just confirmed no service regime for mine with new oil in but to check next year as it could change. Basically them don't have a clue either
