Rev the car stationary with a bit of paper towel held over the exhaust - if there's spots on it it'll be oil. Smell it afterwards. If it smells of fuel (fuel) if it smells of oil (oil) obvious eh
If the car is smoking when you have you
foot down this suggests turbo seals. You can try running a slightly thicker oil say 10w40 to see if the smoking stops, this can also give you an indication how worn the seals are.
If the car is smoking on
overrun (ie after you've had the foot down and coasting in gear) that would suggest valve stem seals are gone.
