Drivers door window wind noise.

I've had a whistle from the seal on the drivers window since I picked the car up new in Nov. Right at the top rear edge. Top left corner as ypu look at the side. . With the stereo loud enough you don't hear it and below 40 mph its not noticable. However, finally got it into the supplying dealer this week. Picked it up today without any dramas and service told me its a recently recognised fault and there is a fix for warranty. Its only 4 miles back home and not high speed but I didnt hear anything. Was more busy trying to find my ideal seat position again.

Just a heads up for anyone else.

Had this on a previous Mk2. The fix? One tech holds the door open whilst a second ( usually the biggest in the place) bends the top of the door frame back. I know, I've done it!
You might want to check your window goes up and down ok ..... :D

Why would anybody bend a door frame to resolve a bad seal around some glass? Unless they're a complete f***ing moron? Trying to tell us something kazand ?

I didn't mean the seal around the glass, but where the door seals to the body when closed at the top corner. Where the door is not pushing hard enough on the rubber, it is 'adjusted slightly. I've seen it done on more than one occasion. We are talking millimetres , no more. That is what I assumed you meant, obviously if it was the seals in the glass running guide that's a different matter. .

They tweak the doors at manufacture in exactly the same way. My mate worked at Toyota at final body fit... They open the door put a knee in the door panel and pull the top of the window frame in a touch. Works a treat to get the clearances right

Hi Pinky,

I've been driving my Leon SC for a couple of weeks now and the wind noise you mentioned has become quite apparent to me with my car. There is a sort of "rushing" sound from my driver side window on accelerating and driving at motorway speeds which is catching my attention and I'm beginning to obsess over it. From your post, do you think I'm able to approach my local Seat dealer with this issue and they can rectify it under warranty?

Or has anyone else any tips on a quick fix for the problem? Considered the possibility of fitting wind deflectors but I'm unsure if this would solve the issue, or potentially make it worse - I've read reports of increased noise levels when windows are closed with these fitted...

Thanks,
Fraser

Sorry. Just seen the last two posts.

I would certainly speak to your dealer if the car is fairly new. Either the guy at my dealer is a specialist in bullshet or its a Seat known fault. I was told one of their technicians had been on a course 2 weeks before where this was discussed. Seeing as I was not charged for the work or the valet they did, I suspect he was telling the truth.

I think the work involved some insert materials and a bit of adhesive.

I can ask if you fellas want me to.

Bit of duck tape, that will fix it ;)

Wind deflectors may or not make it better, I imagine it depends on the design of the ones you fit and how they slide in between the window rubber and how the design makes the air flow around the window area etc.
Personally fitting wind deflectors to try to stop the wind noise, is just a slightly neater alternative to fixing it with duck tape. Fix the root problem, don't just cover it up. Otherwise it's a bit like losing your front door key, and deciding Yourll just leave your front door open all the time rather than calling a locksmith to fit you a new lock.

I'd take it back to the dealer and get them to fix it, seems to be a known issue so should be done under warranty.

If you really want to fix it yourself, then probably some rubber strips glued under the seal, between the seal and the metalwork - a cut up bike inner tube or similar - to pack it out, as looking at both of my cars- although I don't get wind noise- the rubber seal is very loose in the metalwork and from reading another members post, that seems to be much along the lines of the seat dealer fix, although they probably use special Seat rubber inner tube:D
