What driving modes do you guys drive in and which one do you find you get the most MPG from?

I'm currently driving in Eco Mode with 49-51MPG on average with a 60mile round trip to work on mainly motorway. But I think i could get better!

It's a bit artificial really as the only thing eco mode does that would affect the MPG in any real way is reduce the "power" of the air conditioning. In engine terms, it only alters throttle response to encourage you to accelerate slower.

It doesn't reduce engine power or torque so if you drive in eco at the same speeds as sport, you'll get the same MPG. That's certainly what I've found.

it does depend on how you control the throttle yourself... what DSG has though is the coasting with ECO. That depending on the situation can increase the milage quite a bit

From my experience it's all driving style, unless you have a model with any of the ACT systems then I would assume, despite any personal experience, such systems of disabling cylinders would save fuel. As for modes in general it's whatever suits, sport is basically "full throttle earlier" on the pedal and eco is essentially "full throttle later" on the pedal with "normal" being the normal happy medium.

use individual most of the time for the weightier steering (and the red LEDs in the door).
Between Individual, Normal, Sport - no difference in mpg.
Only used Eco a couple of times early on, and didn't seem to be any better for mpg.
I wouldn't bother with it - how you manage the throttle and brakes and general driving style makes far more difference.

If you have ACC then the mode changes the way it reacts.
In eco it starts backing off the power long before you reach your chosen following distance. It also accelerates very gently compared to sport mode.

Found I got better MPG when I was in Normal as opposed to Eco.

I've been using eco for the past couple of weeks and haven't noticed any difference in mpg compared to normal which is what I've been using since having the car in Feb this year. (184 FR) Can't feel any difference in throttle either, possibly a tad more responsive in normal but that could just be me. Definitely notice the difference in power delivery when I put it in sport.

You need to have a DSG in order to make ECO work and you have to be at places for it to make a difference. ie: longer roads where you can coast etc.

I got almost 50 mpg using Economic mode on my last motorway/a-road run in my 1.8 tsi.

Around town and normal driving gets 30 mpg, but again Economic mode will push it up to around 35 even in town.

I get 30 a lot more than 50 because I'm usually in Sport or semi-auto :)

Agree with this as I have had 42+ in ECO mode (coasting out of gear when off the gas) and use it all the time at my work on longer trips.

Although I generally potter about in Eco, I did a bit of Sport driving on a long trip Saturday and Eco coming back Sunday. Both trips I used cruise control a lot and didnt change my style but I got no less, if not a touch more mpg on the way there. But Saturday was cooler weather and better traffic so its really hard to say if there is any real difference.

I guess if there was a difference between modes it would be brought to our attention in brochures and 'Official' mpg figures.

I've never noticed any difference TBH, I think they're a bit gimmicky (unless you have a uncontrolable right foot made from lead). You can near enough mimic Eco mode by just not pressing the fast pedal as much.

On a daily basis I will see 63-66mpg in my 184 (actually 230) on a 40 mile trip to work, in sport mode. Tank to tank calculations indicate that my trip computer is fairly accurate.

I was dying to know this, however never got my self to try it properly.
Thank you guys, this means I can drive in sport now all day long without my better half ranting that Sport consumes more (doesn't even have a licence but hey)...what's even worse I went with it hahaha...

Someone made a good point that if that would be any difference in mpg or l/100km it would have been declared in some way...makes sense...I guess...

Only difference between the I have noticed is a slightly different pressure reading from the map sensor when you push the accelerator down all the way. Normal driving seems to read the same pressure between normal and sport and. but no mpg difference

I've been trying to work out why there's very little difference in consumption between ECO and normal even given some very nice long hills locally down which to coast with my DSG box car.

Maybe this is why.

When you coast, you get to freewheel farther but you use fuel to keep the engine idling. In 'normal', it doesn't drop out of gear, but if it was in 6th at the time with little engine braking then you run on 'air only' whilst your foot is lifted, albeit it for a shorter distance than when coasting. Just maybe, the two cancel each other out?

Hello!

First post here as I wanted to give something back to the community.

Been driving for a month now and figured out the best driving style for high MPG.
My car is a Seat Leon Cupra 265 DSG stage1.

First of all, I am well aware that Cupra is not meant as a fuel efficient car. You still can achieve unbelievable MPG on paying attention on your driving style. Now in my country we use l/100km but I can estimate the MPG..

I have achieved around 6.1l/100km - 6.8l/100km (41.5 - 46MPG) on trips lately. IT IS POSSIBLE. These have been country roads/motorways with speed limits of 30-65mph.

Setup: I use individual profile with these settings: (DCC - Comfort, Steering - Normal, Engine - Comfort ! , Front Diff Lock - Cupra, Air Conditioning - Normal)

If you need to overtake (show the BMW who's the boss) you can always tap DSG to Sport-mode and blast to space. Otherwise let it be on D.

A few notions: Do not use ECO outside of cities, if you want to maximize mpg. Driving downhill just let your foot off the gas pedal and coast in gear. It is way more efficient. When giving throttle, only slighty tap the pedal and you get the optimal feel when maintaining speed, you don't have to have a lead foot. Try to go without cruise control and see the difference compared to it. You will be surprised.

I promise you will easily see MPG of 40+

ANTICIPATION. this is the key to achieving great MPG.
try to complete your journey without ever pressing the brake pedal. (clearly do so when you have to!)
This was highlight how much less time you apply throttle and still make the same journey with next to no difference in time.

for the aircon, - why have it on when its not required.

You hit the nail on the head with anticipate. Forget fancy modes which drop to neutral when lifting off. I always thought that would use more fuel keeping the engine at idle rather than keeping the engine rotating due to the forward motion and gears engaged. We are only talking miniscule amounts here but for those that are concerned with mpg every little helps. I manage early 30's in my cupra dsg without really trying but do prob 50% mway so that would bring the mpg up a few msgs.
