They're not.

Obviously there will be some manufacturing defects

But (like all cars) cannot sustain abuse - which I'll wager has had an effect on some failures

But you can't state they're all **** - since I have two & they're problem free (frantically looking for wood to touch)

personally ive never been a fan of it.
ive always preferred a proper manual box but if i were to have one it would have to be the vag system fitted to the r32`s or late mk5 golfs

Mechatronics is the weak link, if any. If you look at the sheer number of DSG boxes across the VAG group, they're very reliable.

personally still prefer gears thats why the petrol models are strictly off my list and got the fr tdi
and after having a closer look into things these come so sparingly specd compared to many other brands
for instance everything that comes standard on my bravo is optional or not even available for this lil fr like voice control and bluetooth for instance

Just because you read a handful of threads relating to faulty DSG boxes on here or on another forum doesn't mean they're all bad. Likewise with the TFSi engines, I'm sure the vast majority of people are more than happy with theirs.

DSG dosnt cause miss fires........ sounds like your plugs have gone. £30 for a new set.
^^^ What he said

Dunno how you could eveer suspect your gearbox of causing a missfire, like some comments I've seen on here regarding not being able to fit coilovers on models with DSG, what does your gearbox have to do with your suspension?

Your right about a DSG problem not causing misfires but equally a misfire wont cause the "transmission" light to flash as stated, unless he,s confused with what light was flashing of course.
DSG gearboxes arn,t **** on the whole they are very reliable,i have been with VAG for 16 years now and i can genuinley count on 1 hand how many DSG issues i have had to deal with.Although i would say the mechatronics do seem a bit fragile on the cupra,s and bocanegra,s.
I,m sure Fiat Bravo,s may come well specked but how long will it carry on working for ?.But as i dont have that info it would be wrong of me to comment :p

lol well shes clocked up a good 75k so car from new being one the first ones out in 2007 never let me down.
shes been running well over the recommended power aswell shes been sat at 208bhp the hole time thanks to a handy plug in box.
but then again my engine and gearbox in the bravo are a tried and tested set up as they are in alfas saabs vxs chevys as well

the ibiza fr on the other hand is a 10plate with 15k and althou its rarely had short journeys ive still had the old dpf light on until some software upgrade but that shall be gettin removed shortly

I'm interested to know what comes as standard on the Bravo's that's not on the Ibiza's - one of the reason's I bought my Boc was the standard spec it came with :)

But without thread jacking:

I can say I've not had any issues with my DSG, didn't dissuade me from my car choice either, and whilst only coming up to just about 5K miles I'm not sure if I'd buy a manual car if the option of a good automatic box was available on that model again :) If it was anything like this box I'd definitely have it!

*Waits for the impending doom in the next 5000 miles*

The DSG boxes were noted as being on the limit of their capabilities when leaving the factory in the cupra's and boc's, so i can see the DSG as being a rather big stepping stone if anybody wants to tune there TSI.

Mate are you sure its missfiring? I had a similar issue, it was actually the rpm sensor,
the car at 3500 was thinking it had 7000 and sounded like missfires but was hitting the limiter.
