Hi all , the question has probably already been asked but has anyone actually had the fix done and had any issues , I've heard talk of decreased economy and egr issues but not from anyone that's actually had the fix done ,tia

I've heard it leaves swirls in the paint, particularly on uncared , unwashed and unloved for vehicles. Especially ones that get abandoned so the owner can drive a more sporty vehicle at weekends.

I have had it done on my Ibiza 1.6 TDI.

TBH I wouldn't bother if your not fussed and think you should get it because they said so.

So far no issues with the EGR, all the statements on this point to poor driving and/or poor fuel (only v power for me) or an already failing one. Fuel economy has not changed now it has settled in with the new fueling.

I have noticed torque and throttle response are a bit down in the low-mid range (1000-2200), probably where they adjusted the mapping for the emissions. Also the car is a bit jerkier in this range at light throttle, but more throttle solves this.

Don't listen to all the crap that VAG spout off about no change in fuel economy or torque, and no detrimental effects on the engine components. It's all BS.

Read all the comments from real owners who have had the "fix" applied at the bottom of the following article. There are a ton of comments and the truth is all there in black and white.

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/vo...guans-losing-power-after-ea189-emissions-fix/

There is no legal requirement in the UK to have the "fix" applied, and the government aren't offering any incentives if you get the "fix" applied (or penalies if you don't), so why would you even bother taking the risk? If something goes wrong with the car after the fix is applied, don't expect VAG to help you out with the cost of any repairs or revert the engine ECU software back to the previous version, because they won't.

If it's not broke then don't fix it.

My car is going in for a service in a few weeks time and I've drawn up an agreement for the dealer to sign confirming that they will not perform any engine ECU updates on my car when they service it. I have a log of the current engine ECU software version so if I find it's been updated when I get the car back then I will take action against them on the basis of the agreement they signed.

Cheers speed-FReek I'll have a good read of that article to see what people's experiences are , i know i don't have to have it done , the reason I'm asking now is the insurance is due and if i get the ECU done it will remove the remap so no point paying for it on the premium

Bottom line is that for anyone who has had the emission "fix" software update applied, other than poorer fuel economy and reduced bottom end torque, expect premature EGR valve failures and an accelerated death of your DPF both of which cost $$$ to replace. The only thing that VAG have "fixed" with their software update is the ability to ensure that they wiĺl get a steady future income of money from customers needing replacement EGR valves and DPFs

No probs :)

If anyone has been lured (duped) into having the software fix applied, then it would probably be a wise decision to try and get shot of the car as soon as possible before any EGR valve and DPF problems start to rear their ugly head.

SEAT UK also keep spamming me with letters too hassling me get the update applied to my car, and I also notice that their online service booking facility has an "EA189 diesel engine technical solution" listed that is automatically ticked by default, so if you don't notice it or understand what it means then you end up inadvertently agreeing to have the emissions fix software update applied as part of a service. Sneaky buggers :yelcard:

Ahh didn't realise they were doing that , it's a bit cheeky , my service isn't due till November so I'll bear that in mind nearer the time .
