econ / aircon ! ??

was a nice day today so i decided to see if i could get some cool air, as in previous cars i just hit air con and instantly get a cool breeze...


any way, i flipped the econ button and set it to 16 (one above the LOW setting) and it was alright, but was a bit warm... and not the usual air con style im used to.. i turned the econ off and bingo, i had some proper cold air come through... but still not air con style, it was just blasting out, turned fan blowers down but still not as good as real aircon.. what is the best solution ?

Econ switches the aircon off, and is just a blower.

Says in the manual it cannot provide air lower than the ambient temperature when on ECON, only higher, so as Dan says. BTW, you coming VAG night tomorrow?

Leave eco off (so its not displayed) - however my aircon is broke - so waiting for a part from a dealer to fix it ...

Make sure Econ is off and turn the temp down to Lo which will make it blast cold air all the time.

hmmm I had the same thing yesterday, turned eco off as soon as I got in the car, 20 minutes later and the air being blown out on Lo is still warm. It's the first time I've used it since I bought the car (new) in September.

Does anyone know if aircon is one of those systems like exhausts that the local dealership will try and tell me isn't covered by the warranty?

I was out Saturday lunchtime with it set to lo and was freezing, had to keep switching between econ on and off..... so sounds like you guys have a problem somewhere...

Setting air recirculation on should also help maintain a colder temperature in the car, espcially on hot days.

i've noticed that my air con takes an age to start cooling the air and even then its not totally cold. to be honest there is very little difference between leaving econ on or off.

Does anyone know if regassing the system would help? saw a DIY kit in hafords at the weekend but was a bit dubious...

i presume the ambient temperature was warmer than 16 degrees... as if it wasnt it would put warm are in to get 16...

i think i get what you mean. am i right in saying if the outside temp was say 12 degrees and with it set to 16 it will warm the air (obviously enough). however when i have it set to low it still only seems to be a little colder than without econ...i'm actually a bit confused as to the workings of the system in the leon. am i right in guessing that there is a cabin temperature sensor?

i've noticed that my air con takes an age to start cooling the air and even then its not totally cold...

The trick here is to open the windows when you first roll so that you first get ambient temp air into the cabin, then run the AC to start pushing cold air into the cabin space, then close the windows. If you get into a car and just push the cold air in, the ratio of warm to cold air is quite high, but if you roll a bit to push out the warm air, you get a much lower ratio and the AC will kick in colder, quicker.

Also it means the heat exchanger at the front is able to work effectively with moving air, hence making the cabin colder quicker.

yes. (therefore its climate control as you can set it to a temperature)

System automatically switches to Recirculate (although no indication of this on display) when the temperature is set to low.

Incidentally, it also switches to Recirculate when you engage reverse so that you don't choke on your exhaust fumes...

You can hear this happening. Switch recirculate on to hear how it sounds then switch it off, then engage reverse. You will hear it goes in to recirculate.

If its a hot day like sat and the car has been parked up a while i hold the button on the romote down when i unlock it and all the windows open.... lets all the hot air out and looks flash too....

I don't fully understand my climatic system. I seem to be able to have auto by itself displayed, econ and auto displayed, just econ displayed and no econ or auto displayed. I can't work out what the difference is between them all.

I thought econ was to supposed to automatically change the fan speed but without the aircon on? If so what is the difference between just econ displayed and econ and auto displayed together?
