Hi Guys,

Just joined! I got my Leon FR 2.0 TFSI last week (In love with it!).

I was wondering if anyone knew much about ECU/Remapping - I want to do it mainly for the MPG. I've gone from a 1.2 16v clio to 2 ltr turbo.. the mpg wasnt difference wasnt much of a shock but i've heard that ECU can really help on MPG and it gives (sales blurb):

The benefits of re-mapping are much better performance/power, smoother and more responsive power delivery and as you mention, better MPG. (When you are not using all the power!)

The gains are approx +45bhp and +77NM of torque

I dont understand Torque too well but I know 45 bhp is a pretty impressive increase!

Has anyone had this done and has it made a difference? Or does anyone know of a good place in or around the midlands (Leicester pref) that will do a good job of it

Cheers!

Yes this is quite common, not many people on here I don't think though. This is the sam, engine as in the A3, Golf GTi and octavia VRS so very popular.

I don't really think anyone does it for economy reasons. Basically the theory behind the extra economy advertised is that as there is more power, you are not really using the rev range so much, so lower revs eqquals lower mpg. In practice you don't actuaslly see a drop, becuase you like to use the extra power if you have a remap.

So basically, its not worth getting a remap just for ecomony, you should of bought a more ecomonical and less powerful car if thats what you want.

Even if you do save a few mpg, the £500 or so inital outlay of the remap totally wipes that out.

But if you want extra power, I highly recommend it, its amazing the transformation. just remember you have to declare it to your insurers, and officially it wouldnt do the car warrenty any good.

hope this helps. :)

Yeah it does help thanks.

I think im gonna go ahead with it anyway, theirs a place in Wolverhampton that will do it all for £325.

Im not too fussed bout the mpg cos at the end of the day I just love to drive it! Just thought if i save a bit on economy I may aswell!

Cheers!

What remap is that for £325

I'd rather pay the extra for a reprutable company who specialise in VAG tuning. which I did :)

Ahh thats alright then :)

Just a bit thrown out as the bhp and torue increase figures are different on your website to what he posted :)

This is the problem with figures on all tuning websites. They are really approx guides.

We quote recent figures acheived when e-mailed.

I agree with your MPG comment. Diesels can be mapped for much better MPG, where as these petrol turbo units will usually see a simliar MPG when mapped, or maybe slightly better. Performance is the key though ;)

I have read on here about the issues remapping a 170 TD FR, but everything I have read is about remapping for as much extra bhp as possible. Is it possible to remap a TD FR for better MPG without affecting the performance, or maybe slightly increasing it? Or is the remap for the TD 170 a long way off ??

Hi There

Not far off at all, I have mapped 2 of these models already.

If you want a map that is concentrated on better MPG, then this is no problem at all.

Do you mean you've mapped 2 already for performance? What kind of figures were you getting?

So even a remap for better mpg would have a slight performance improvement too? Just a couple of bhp or are you talking a reasonable few?

Does this mean that the DPF on the FR 170 is no longer an issue?
All sounding good.. might be in contact soon for prices etc!!

Strange.

I have never had this, or had customer report it.

I was talking with a colleague about this who will do a remap with his 2.0TDI. He is an engineer in the automotive industry and knows what he is talking about... ;) Even the company who will do the remap (http://www.skn-tuning.de/ , sorry it's german) told him that it will get noisier. But of course I don't know if it will really get annoying. The method used to decrease the mpg makes sense that the car will get noisier, but perhaps you do not recognize it that much or get used to it.

But who cares! If my car could be able to need less fuel and would thereby get louder I think that's ok!
