could they of locked the ecu.

You need to pair the new ECU to the car, easily done on vag com.

Yes you do. You are pairing the immobiliser. Nothing to do with part numbers.

Yes very easy with Vag Com. There is a guide on her on how to do it. Takes 5mins.
