ECUfix & aftermarket lead question

Lee M

Guest
Hi all,

Just brought a ECUfix serail OBD lead to use with my custom code software. The pins in the plug head are larger (and hence a tighter fit) than the ones on my ross-tech vag-com usb lead........is this normal/ok?

Thanks for your help

Be careful. Pins that are too large can loosen the corresponding pin-sockets in the connector in the car and cause dogdy connections in the future when you use VAG-COM or the dealers' tool.

It amazes me that some of the people who make these items appear never to have bothered to read the specs for these connectors. The specs are an international norm (SAE J1962 or ISO 15031-3) and contain all the dimensions and tolerances one could possibly want when designing a connector like this.

Hi Uwe,

I did check on the site that this was the case and it states "OBDII Plug: J1962 16-Pin Male (to Car)", so I presumed that this would be ok........

They are not much thicker but are thicker than the ones I have on your cable. Have you seen any plugs before with a bit of a thicker tolerence on the plug that are the correct J1962?

If not can you point me in the direction of a good serial OBDII cable? (no need for vag com capabilities as I have a proper lead).

Cheers for your help

Uwe,

I would love too but..........I have a USB ross tech lead and i cant get custom settings (custom code software) to talk via the usb lead, as it looks for com ports only in the software.

Any ideas?

Why don't you use the VAG-COM lead for your 3rd party applications?
