Hello all, I've had my mk5 FR TDi 4 weeks now and I can confirm that when switching off the engine during a regen the fans stay on and it stinks of burning almost like clutch or electrical. This is due to the extreme temps the DPF gets up to during the regen process. It had me worried at first, did it again this morning.

When I thrashed my K1 I've smelt a toxic stink when I've deposited back on the drive, despite ticking over for the obligatory moment or two to let the turbot cool down. Vile smell. Always felt sorry for her & looked back shamefully down the drive over my shoulder as if to say "I'm sorry." Then remembered how much fun it was! Heehee.

Bet it's the smell of burning sulphur, a bit like rotten egg smell. Comes from the CAT I believe.
