my emission control light came on today, car seemed fine no rise in temp, and no puffs ofsmoke ect from exhaust.

mechanic friend told me via text message its fine to drive untill next week when i can get to a garage.

Anyone had this?

What does it mean?

What needs to be done to fix it?

Is it warranty? (only had car 11 months and done 5600 miles lol)

Cheers!

A few reports of this.

Have you filled up with fuel recently? Could be a slightly poor batch.

Give it a couple of days and it usually goes off :)

Gonna guess its the fuel then ... should go on the next tank (fingers crossed)

So is the car ok to drive in the mean time? ie will i do any longterm damage?

Would putting some top quality fuel like BP Ultimate in help?

Should i take it to the dealer in the mean time?

Cheers

If it was me, i'd drive it, and see what happens. Its either going to be fine, or breakdown

Then once, i'd used up that tank of fuel, and filled up again, if it then didn't go off after a couple of hundred miles on a new tank of fuel, I'd book it in with the dealer.

Not really sure what the "proper" answer is, whats the manual say about the light?

Manual says:

Seat Manual said:
If a fault has developed while driving which has reduced the quality of the exhaust gas (e.g. lambda sensor probe fault) Reduce speed and drive carefully to the nearest qualified workshop to have the engine checked.

Should i be writing to the petrol company i bought the petro, from you think?

nah - i'd just call it one of those things, you cannot proove if it was or wasn't unless you a petrochemical specialist :D or pay for testing.

It of course, may not be at all to do with the petrol, it may well be a fault somewhere else, hence i said use that lot up, try some other stuff, if its still the same then call the dealer.

Other people however would tell you to book it in with the dealer straight away, as does the manual :)

Its up to you what you want to do and how much hassle it is to be without a car / get to the dealer to fix it etc.etc.

p*ss poor timing to just before new year so there shut for a couple of days!

Hence why i said drive it ;)

Things *always* happen at the most inconvenient time. -

Christmas morning our kettle blew up. Now where do you get a new one of them on xmas day when your cooking dinner for 6 people and need to make tea/coffee gravy etc.etc.

No doubt next Friday the M6 will be shut, or it'll be snowing just as I need to go to Manchester airport :(

annoying thing if it is petrol problem is normally i just stick in a tenner at a time, but this time as i knew i had a few long runs planned, i put £40 in !

Well, wouldn't you know it ....

Filled up today with Shell V-Power .... 10 miles later ... yep, you guessed it emissions light on.

Ah well ..... It'll be staying as far as I'm concerned .. all seems okay at the moment :)

oh my god i cursed you!!

i went to the dealers today, they hooked it up to diagnostics and there was no fault code.

Bloke said it probably needed a good run, and to drive it a bit harder than normal for a few miles!

And a 140miles later .. its gone again  perhaps it was just getting used to the fuel
