Emission Control System

Just been out in my 07 Altea FR TDI and the Emission Control warning light came on and stayed on - steady, not flashing. I now have to get it to the dealers as soon as possible. The manual says that it could be the Lambda probe that is at fault. If it is, does anyone out there know what sort of a job is replacement? ( the car is under warranty so cost is not my worry). Also, I'm using a K & N air filter - would I be wise to put the original paper filter back in before it goes to be sorted?

Do you have a DPF? If so it may need "recharging". I believe the light comes on if the filter has got clogged up. I think the remedy is an extended run for 20 mins at 60mph to burn off the soot.
Have a scout on forum for emergency DPF or something similar.

And yes put original filter back in. Is it an oiled filter? These are notoriuos for screwing up the MAF

Thanks for that CrispDust. I'll remove the air filter because I don't want the dealer to have any excuse for not doing the job under warranty. The car does have a DPF, but it is a different warning symbol for that - and I had taken the car on a 200 mile blast only the day before the light came on. Managed to get it in to dealer tomorrow morning ( Thursday) so will know more then.

emisson control light is a warning light for, well, pretty much anything generally. all the way from a bit of water causing a misfire once, to a lambda probe going, to a sensor reading out of spec.

vag-com is useful for reading these codes....

as it's a year old probably just a random sensor failure or someit, k&n filter won't cause a warning light, as the ecu will adapt the fuel trim (ie: mixture of air and fuel) to compensate.... (hence the extra power, more air - more fuel)

But the k&N could contaminate the maf which if faulty would throw a light up.

MAF wont throw up a light, most of time anyway.

The dealers had the car today and they couldn't find a fault code but said there was a high resistance in an exhaust sensor. They apparently removed it and gave it a clean and so far all seems well!
