does anyone know if my car is likely to fail its MOT under the new rules?
i know why it is on (timing out by half a tooth) but don't have the time just now too adjust the cambelt.

As my car is still driving ok i want to avoid having to do this for a couple of weeks. Any know a definite whether this would be a fail.

thanks in advance. :D

I'm not looking at driving it tbh until the cam is sorted. Im working away but need an MOT to get it taxed as i dont have any where to keep it off road if its sorn!! Hence the reason i need to know if its a failure or not...............

I tend to agree with the above post,...

I don't believe the EML MOT rules are in effect yet either?

I thought it came into effect after April - but i am unclear whether it is just airbag/abs lights etc.

EML is just a check light and could be such a vast number of issues causing it - it doesn't mean the car is unsafe to drive?

If in doubt reset the battery (wipes the error code) and drive the car to the MOT. The EML light illuminates have either a significant fault or a repetitive small fault... you might be lucky :)

hmmm maybe................................

this is the code i get and the wright up on ross tech wiki page:-

17748/P1340/004928 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation

Possible Causes
Timing Belt/Chain incorrectly installed
Timing Chain probably lengthened
Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
Engine Speed Sensor (G28) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Timing Belt/Chain installation
Use Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) to Check Timing Chain
Check/Replace Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
Check/Replace Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
Special Notes
When found in the 1.8T engine, check engine oil pressure. The oil pump pickup may be restricted.
When found in the 1.8T engine (possibly others too), check to make sure the correct G40 is installed (single gap versus 4 gap).
When found in VR6 4 Valve (BDF, BJS, BAA,) engines in conjunction with 17755 please see Technical Bulletin 15-07-03. The previous Technical Bulletin number was 15-04-01.
When found in a 30-valve V6 gasoline Audi engine (such as EPB or BEL), DTC 17755 may be stored as well. If both of these codes are displayed simultaneously, and the codes only appear after the motor is revved above 1800RPM, then the issue is likely that the cam chain tensioners were installed on the incorrect heads (drivers' tensioner on passenger head, etc).

i've changed both the sensors. so that rules them out - i have re-set the ecu with VAGCOM but the light returns with in 5 minutes. so don't think that will work?!

I recently had a P1340 fault code and it was my timing belt, was out 1 1/2 teeth. I got it sorted straight away as in the long......or even short term could cost you a lot more to get a new engine than the cost of the original repair. I didn't even drive mine for a week which was when it was going into the garage!

If its only belt timing its around an hours labour. Best option is plan a shopping trip with the missus to clarks village and we are just about a mile away, and can run you into town and pick you up.
