The mothers car had a water pump go on her Ibiza in October. Since then the car hasnt been right. Temp gauge not working and internal heating system always blowing cold.
She took it into the dealers for them to check, as the heating and temps all relate to the initial issue.
They called me today as she didnt understand what they was telling her, and they have said that the EMS is badly corroded and there is an electrical fault in the loom. They gave me a price of circa £2000 to replace the EMS and loom including labour!
Now the history on the car itself. One silly old biddy who drives like miss Daisy. Car has covered 25k since 2000 when bought new. Always serviced by the dealer of purchase.
Now do we look for a new car or try and get it fixed?
I've taken it for a gentle drive as I out to the M25 and back (5 miles each way) and the car never really gets up to temp. I stopped to get some shopping on the way back and when I got back in it was warm on the heater side until I started driving which would indicate the thermostat.
The dealers have always been good, but I had thought the same.
I know a decent mechanic, and get him to have a look.
thermostat is nice & easy to replace with a screwdriver only
a new one is about £6, certainly a DIY job.
if there's a fault, and no fault code the dealers are so poorly trained these days they assume it's the ECU. there's zero fault finding ability these days.
