Hi all, thought I would share a few things my dad and I did to my engine bay. Both the coolant cap and washer cap have been sprayed satin black, and the engine cover sprayed with vht metallic black, though it looks more gunmetal. All simple stuff, but it brightens it up. Next I'll be getting the audi oil cap and a new dipstick with a black handle.

Thanks :) I've since got the engine cover carbon dipped. It's easy enough to get off, just pull up and towards you. It's just held on with three rubber mounts.

That look awesome! I prefer the carbon to the gunmetal colour, and thanks man I'll give it a go and see if it budges, just needs a good clean that's all I spilt oil on it and it won't come off :')

Hey, sorry to bring up an old topic, but when you painted your cover did you have to use any special paint or anything?

I used some vht spray paint from halfords. It was classed as black but came out the gunmetal colour which I was happy with. Just make sure you use a surface cleaner first and a few coats should be fine.

Ahh brilliant, how long did it last like was it good quality and does the heat not affect it? Also was it the same paint used on the heat shield?

The heat shield was Matt black vht paint. Sorry just remembering the cover was actually grey vht, but still from halfords. Quality was grand and lasted perfectly. The heat shield is still the same and the engine cover lasted until I got it dipped.

Thanks. Yeah it's worth doing as it's easy enough and gives a good finish. I used Porsche gt3 oil and coolant caps because they're a lot cheaper than the R8 ones around £30 each iirc.

Ahh yeah I didn't realise you'd done that but I just zoomed in on the image above, they do look smart and for that price you can't really go wrong, are they a direct replacement or did they need to be modified?
