This is probably going to sound like a ridiculous question, Basically I have a Ibiza 6J 1.6 16V, and my air conditioning isn't at all great and my windscreen mists up as soon as i start breathing, I as wondering if the two little tap on the left hand side of the engine bay have anything to do with the air conditioning / heating and what exactly they do, Pics can be supplied if needed, Thanks!

Not sure about the taps but when was the pollen filter last changed ? - that can have a big effect on condensation in the car.

also - are you doing very short trips so it never warms up ?

Do the fans work ?

Hey DEAn0, It should have been changed with my last service, however the mechanic I used was quite large and I seriously doubt he'd be able to get in to the foot well, It's dry and doesn't seem overly clogged though, Is it worth changing it to be sure anyway?
Also I do some short trips but also some long ones, it's only now it's cold when im noticing it!
The fans work, although possibly not as powerful as i'd have thought.

Mine looked reasonably clean but I noticed a difference after fitting a charcoal filter.

For the sake of £20 and 5 mins fitting - I would give it a go.

Another quick thought - you don't run the system on recirculation mode do you ?

I've ordered one now, should be here soon Euro car parts has discount on at the moment also, which helps! I don't run it on recirculation nope, and I've checked that the flap is functioning correctly and it is, The scuttle tray wasn't on correctly so I rectified that, So it may be that there's loads of crap in the heater somewhere might just need a decent vac out :p

I'd guess that the "taps" you are referring to are just dust covers for the Hi side and Lo side manifold connection points on the R134 chiller for the A/C.

Thinking a bit more about your "windows misting up quickly" - are you sure that the inside surfaces of the glass are clear of that nasty film that you get? Also, I tend to, as well as keep the glass clean, leave the fan off for a couple of miles until the water heats up a bit, this also improves the MPG - of course this is not possible if the glass is not clean. My S4 and wife's Polo tend to get garaged so this never happens, daughter's Ibiza lives outside so it happens all the time - if the window glass is covered in a film of "stuff".

In addition to the above, you could also try one of the moisture absorbing packs. I use a 450gm 'Pingi XL' and that certainly seems to help.

It is basically a cloth bag full of moisture absorbing beads - there's an indicator on the outside which tells you when it needs re-charging and you do that by sticking it in the microwave, so it is re-usable.

The 450g XL size costs about £10 (inc delivery) on eBay, search for'Pingi XL' and you will find it. Well worth the money in my view.

Agreed - very handy at this time of year.

I have a pair of the 450gm ones ( was only £14 for two last year ) - I swap them over every couple of weeks at this time of year. Recharge the one that is in the house then leave it in the airing cupboard ready for use.

Thanks for the tips! There may possible be some kind of crap on the windscreen but i can't seem to get it off, put it this way, you can see the label from the factory when it mists up, I have them silica pouches, they seem to help, although not a much as i wish, The new filter may help yet, We'll have to see, thank you Guys!

Get some IPA ( isopropyl alcohol ) if you can find it locally and clean the inside of the screen with it.

it's not normally too expensive but some people are reluctant to ship it.

From what I've seen recently, lots of places (high street shops)are selling these packs and describing them for that specific use, so it seems you are not alone in having issues!
