please help anyone, the gremlins in my car keep cutting the dam thing off when it reaches running temperature, and will not restart for 5-10 mins later. it is a 1595cc 96 cordoba, engine AFT.

I have been following andyj, problems coz they sounded similar, but have a new coil and have replaced the relay marked 30. still doing it. when you do try to restart it after cutting out it turns over but doesnt fire, i also noticed that the oil light flashes at this point, could this meen anything!

please help i have not been able to use the car since xmas, and public transport is not all it is cracked up to be.

will have the codes checked, we have a flash code reader, although they have not been cleared for a while so it may show old faults.

you mention when it goes off choke should i lookfor anything specific.

thanks icecavern will keep you in mind if need parts as the dealer is a bit pricey.

just a thought does a fuel injection have a choke? sorry im nice but a bit dim!!!!:D

on the fault codes the man fron the AA said he couldnt use his hand reader as there was a plug but no wires?? was he telling porkies i have since checked and there would seem to be some wires leading from it, i know my car is an older model and the ecu prob. stores limited info.

yes it is cutting out after warmed up, will turn over but not fire up till at least 10mins later. if you try to acc. through it it just back fires, i presume because the ecu is telling it to cut off.

when it starts up it idiles beautifuly then it gives in. :headhurt:

the engine has been rebuilt since the timming ajuster went at xmas, ouch.
it has been playing up since, has new dizzy, coil and ecu relay.

you've told us the answer!

Your timing isn't set right. Unless the garage had VW tool/Vagcom/ or a proper VAG machine they won't have done it right.

You need to get it to a VW specialist who knows how to fix this.

so even though it has been set manuly and looks right, even starts right, runs sweet, (till it cuts out) it still needs to be reset by a specialist?

sorry ecu's are a mystery to us, why cant we have it simple the way it used to be, the manufacturers just dont want us tinkering with the cars so that they have us by the short and curlies, and bank balance.

oops fell of the soap box there.

i asume the only place is a main dealer or do you know off anyone in the paisley/glasgow area. or shall i just YELLOW it.

just spoke to my local garage, (not the guy that did the engine rebuild) yeh he thinks the timming might be even one tooth out, but shouldnt need the vag.com.!!!!!!!

:funk:  got the wheels running now, although not had a long test drive.

the ECU was faulty and the crank sensor so all would seem good, it is a little stuttery on acclelerating but that might due to sitting idle for so long, will find out in due course.

a big thank you to anyone who gave any of the hint's and suggestion's to the problems :D
