Engine issue?

You don't need to rebuild or replace the engine, you can use a borescope to look inside the piston chambers. If it is the oil rings it will just be a new chain and piston rings. Compression will be within spec because there is likely not much wrong with the 2 compression rings. If you look after the engine and keep up with repairs there is no reason it can't last at least another 120,000 miles.
PCV, Turbo and valve stem seals can also consume oil.

Check the charge pipe
PCV and PCV hose changed recently. Haven’t checked turbo. Where would the turbo be leaking/consuming from
Check the charge pipe for oil, a few drops running out of it is deemed to be okay, but if oil runs out of it when you remove it then maybe the shaft seals have failed in the turbo, though any oil getting past the oil separator and into the inlet side of the turbo via the crankcase ventilation system will end up in that charge pipe.

Just how oily did the PCV valve and its pipework look when you replaced them?

What’s a charge pipe? Intake hose? Intake hose has no oil in whatsoever. The old PCV hose had oil around its seals on both sides, and the turbo elbow had oil in it before I replaced the PCV hose and PCV valve. I did have a Ramair elbow and intake hose, but I’ve replaced them both with my stock parts now, as the PCV hose wasn’t clipping 100% to the Ramair elbow.

VW Group call the charge pipe, the one that connects the output of the turbo to the throttle valve.

Edit:- I'd be amazed if there was not oil getting as far as the charge pipe, just how much is my question.

New chain and rings is labour intensive and expensive.
Yes but unfortunately, that is what is likely what is wrong with your car. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper long term than buying a new cat every 6-12 months and replacing a litre of oil every month. It would certainly be cheaper than buying a new car or engine when the excess oil causes internal damage or clogs the engine with soot.

Selling it right now and buying a new car would be cheaper than a new chain and piston rings though, wouldn’t it?

No the money you would lose when selling it with problems would cost you more than the repairs if you were to sell it legit. You could hide the problems and sell it I suppose but that is a choice you would have to make

Update: mechanic has confirmed both cam magnets need changing. I’d already bought the 2 magnets, timing cover with bolts n gasket, new dipstick and oil cap. I’ll try replace these myself at the weekend.

I replaced them without the timing cover. Replacing the cover is a lot more work compared to only changing the magnets.

Check from about 10:30

I know, but a bolt on the timing cover snapped and the gasket for the timing cover is failing, and oil is leaking from there. So may as well do that too.

Replaced the cam magnets, and the snapped bolt for the timing chain cover. Old cam magnets were definitely finished. The small notch in the centre would not move at all. The notch of the new magnets moved freely🤞🏼

Hi guys, any ideas about this? Leon Cupra 280 DSG, on just over 120,000 miles. These are the error codes. Has been happening for a while now. 6 months after an oil change, car asks for 1L of oil every month or so. When the cars idling, it’ll rough idle sometimes, and revs will fluctuate and engine will judder, but only intermittently. Getting low to mid 20mpg with normal driving. No other symptoms. I’ve got a res delete, no other mods. Changed the PCV valve and PCV hose recently. Had a compression test last year. All compression is within spec, but at the lower end of the range. Ideas?

I had the same issues with my 2019 Arona with around 80.xxx km. Intermittent rough idle, intermittent lack of power and about 1L of oil. The EPC warning light would come on intermittently and some error message with the auto start stop. Couldn't get it to do it when it was at the dealership so I bought my own OBDII scanner (30 euros on Amazon.es) and took photos of the warnings to show them. Turned out I had a bad #2 cylinder and required a new motor. Covered under warranty and all is well now. They couldn't tell me why it happened.
