Guys,

It looks like the cold start problem has finally been fixed. The weather has been suitably cold recently, and I have had no problems whatsoever starting.

Seat still do not recognise this as an official fault, so my garage (Westerham) contacted a VW specialist that had also seen this problem on the Bora V5. They flashed the ECU with the VW code that fixed the problem on the Bora, and hey presto - it seems to have fixed it on the Toledo- HOORAY!!

Shame really, as I have just part ex'd it to get a TDi 130 Alhambra!!

PhilNeo

Do you know if Westerham garage can be contacted via email? (address?) I would like to get more detailed information about the "flashing".
Or could you perhaps find any useful information on your receipt?

Thanks / Rikard

Rikard: This fix was done under warranty, so I do not have a receipt or anything. Give them a ring, and I am sure they will help - I have since heard that they have done the same to another V5 to fix a similar problem.

ANRO: The car never actually let me down - it was just a case that the throttle had to be blipped upon starting in the cold weather - it was more of an inconvenience. Despite this, the Toledo is probably my favourite car I have owned. It is just that an expanding family has demanded more space than the Toledo can offer, and the Alhambra offers everything I need.

Hi,
My car is, since 1½ week ago, turned in to a seat garage for this problem. They have replaced the temp-sensor and the MAF without any good results (the car was actually starting even worse with these parts replaced  ).

I gave them the contact-info to westerham garage and hope that they will listen to them about what they have to say.

I strongly believe that I have the same fault that you guys have/had, and that there is a solution for it... But the seat garage that has the car right now have not, this far, repaired a car with a similiar problem. I guess that is why it is taking so long time.

Meanwhile

Cold Misfire

Dealer in scunthorpe has just fixed a V5 with misfire when cold by replacing spark plugs. It wasn't showing up on diags.

I hate to drag up such an old thread,my V5 literally started with this problem yesterday afternoon. Its been fine for 3 years, but yesterday and this morning when starting from cold if i dont blip the throttle it cuts out. When its warm its fine.

Did anyone discover what the actual fix is (i'm really hoping its not he MAF)

rickard i had the same problems with my toledo 1.6s i sprayed some carb clean in the throttle body at it work a treat so far.....

Would like to know the solution also as mines has started this problem with the cold weather I think.

I think it may just have been some some kack on the plugs or in the throttle bodies, because this was happening when i was doing a fair few short journeys. (2miles) I went back to work and gave it a good blast first and its been fine ever since.

hi all, thought it be better to resurrect an old thread as opposed to a new one...!

ive got a year 2000 "W" reg Leon 1.6s and this sounds spot on to whats happening to mine...

is there a defenite fix that anyone has done thats worked?

thanks in advance!

Matt

Not sure if there's a solution to this one Matt. Mines was doing it before I had it serviced and is still doing it after. Thought the new plugs might have cured it but it hasn't.
